Surely it's worth seeing what Martinelli can do from a central position? I'm not talking about permanently, just for spells in games to stretch the opposition with his movement and interchange with Saka & Trossard. We have more than enough options before we need to get to Merino there.

That's not to write off Gyokeres, but he's trying to force it and probably needs a few games off the bench.
Don’t hate the idea of Martinelli in a second striker-type role. But struggle to see him doing anything against a defence that’s camped in their box. Just don’t really rate his awareness or football IQ. Think he’s at his best when he can abuse/threaten with his pace which is rarely the case for us

Even though we'd like him to score more goals, there's no doubt his directness and work rate is stretching the opposition defense which is opening things up for us. Havertz may well be the better ball player and technician, but is very indirect which makes it much easier for the bad guys to defend against us.

Gyok is pulling in some serious shifts and I'd like to see Nelli give him a rest now and then - his pace at CF would give us an extra dimension in our attack. His 2 recent goals off the bench were through the middle using his pace.

Doubt he had a choice here, Saka pulled rank and I’m not really sure how I feel about it considering Gyok looks the better penalty taker eye and stats test wise.

I'm pretty surprised tbh. Arteta focusses on every detail, probably decided what thread count the throw in towels are but he isn't making sure our best penalty taker takes them all. Weird.

Saka shouldn't have done that because he's captain at the time and unless Gyokeres kicks up a fuss in front of 60,000 people he can't really do anything

Hope this happens. Also prefer that we do not get complacent with over-reliance on his 'work-rate' (i mean in a positive way) which frees-up our wingers. We should develop the Nelli upfront option and/or other combos in the coming string of very winnable games. Pretty exciting times for us when injured players are back. Mikel + Albert running their opposition based team selection algos during international break.

With Gyökeres, you always have someone in the box when a winger makes their move. That’s why I don’t like Havertz at CF — too often the box is empty when the wingers beat their man 1v1, and Havertz is nowhere to be found.

I'm quite confident Saka won't be taking most of the pens moving forward, it seemed quite obvious that he was doing it because of his 200th game

The penalty we got in the Newcastle game Saka clearly pointed to Gyokeres and said it was going to be him that was taking it, they'd clearly have seen him in training and how lethal he is from the spot, I'll be very surprised if Saka takes the next one given he doesn't have a flawless record

For all we know Saka agreed with Gyokeres beforehand that he’d take any penalties just that day. I wouldn’t read too much into it unless he takes the next one as well.

Gyokeres should be our penalty taker, I don’t think that should even be up for debate. His record from the spot is ridiculous.

As far as I'm aware we haven't had an out and out pen taker for quite some time.

Last season Saka had 3, Ødegaard 2, Jorginho, Sterling and Trossard 1.

It'll probably cycle between Gyokeres, Saka and Ødegaard this season.

Also we REALLY need to manage his minutes ffs, Havertz ain’t coming back anytime soon. Mikel starting to piss me off with this ****.

Just bring him off on 60m or something and stick Merino there.

Pretty sure from Gyokeres reaction of trying to take the penalty back it wasnt agreed before hand

I’m not mad at Saka stealing a pen for selfish reasons you know. Didn’t know he had it in him so I like that for him.

Still shouldn’t have been allowed to happen mind you

Our boy’s all grown up ❤️

Does make you wonder like, you know how Mikel has carefully curated this dressing room of choir boys - what happens when the boys grow up and develop egos and ****. Can he still manage it and keep it harmonious?

I think he’s built up enough capital in that dressing room to say yes, but a lot depends on him winning something this year.

Reckon it was Jover’s decision.

Probably crunched the numbers on all keepers in the league vs left or right footers.

We’re set piece wizarding our penalties as I predicted. Guy needs to be stopped…

He’s spot on

Can’t disagree. I would argue if he doesn’t sort out his finishing though it’s just simply not good enough. But if we have a bit of patience and say ‘he will sort out getting his shots off quicker and we will give him more chances’ then in the meantime this is good.

I think people are just concerned at the moment because the thing we signed him for he has been poor with at times.

Religiously, it is said that God created man. I am only a guide. I allow others to express what they have in them. I have not created anything. I am a facilitator of what is beautiful in man.
