Nothing to do with Arteta's guy or not. I will support anyone who plays for Arsenal even if it was not the manager's first choice. I desperately want Gyok to work out. Havertz was also criticized (and rightly so) in the first 4-5 months (and the hatred still continues for him, which is a different matter). Same thing is happening here, so what's wrong? If Gyok is successful and if people are still hating on him, I'll be defending him like I defend Havertz as well.

You were defending Havertz when he WASNT a success though, that’s the entire point here. He was absolutely ass for a long time and you were busy running cover. I’m not talking about now.

So again, I ask: What’s changed?

The thing with you is when people were pointing out “valid criticisms” for Havertz you were out on your knees and it makes me question why the difference in approach here?

Is it because Havertz was Mikel’s guy and Gyokeres wasn’t perhaps? 🤔

Such an antagonist.

We should have signed Sesko tbh, he was the right player.

Think if we had Sesko in the team he’d have more goals than Gyokeres right now. Simply more suited to how we play and much more adaptable to play direct or into his feet.

He’s looked brilliant at a hideous United team.
Brave of you to say this but I agree with it

Sesko is more plug and play for Mikel's tactic, hence why we waited until forever for him

But I do appreciate Gyok for "forcing" Arteta to adapt the tactic in a way that seems to be beneficial for the whole team

Anyone with a bit of footballing knowledge can see that he’s keeping two centre-backs busy and freeing Saka from being double- or even triple-teamed.

His presence in the box also gives Rice, Eze, and the others more space to take long shots. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Saka in a true 1v1 without extra defenders dropping in to help out.

You could also make the case that Ødegaard has been performing better since Gyökeres became our striker.

Can he also score goals while doing those basics?

How in the world has he made Ode play well?

Come onnn.

We are scraping the bottom of the barrel to defend him.

He’s nice lad who works his socks off but he’s average footballer. He MIGHT score 20 league goals if he improves timing of his shots, show bit more composure in front of the goal, and we up our attacking prowess. Granted we haven’t created much for him but enough to have scored 2-3 goals more. He has only scored 2 games out of 11?

At the moment he’s 10-12 league goals player which is fine if others up their game. I never expected him to challenge the Haaland’s and Isak’s but one level below. At the moment he looks two or three levels below.

I wasn't even in favor of the havertz transfer. Whole forum pretty much hated him till he started playing well. Not sure who was busy defending him till November/December of that year

I’m not mad at Saka stealing a pen for selfish reasons you know. Didn’t know he had it in him so I like that for him.

Still shouldn’t have been allowed to happen mind you
Still pushing this narrative of Saka being a "nice guy" cause he is polite and respectful (typical for being raised in a Nigerian home with both parents). Saka has always been very competitive and confident in his ability. It was the English media that tried to turn him into Kante Jr, with subtle racially motivated condescensions. "One of the good ones" dog whistles.

So poor. He's too slow, his speed of movement and speed of action. Clumsy.
Just not quick or technical enough for this level. He is built like a rugby player, I knew watching him wouldn't bring me much joy, but I still like some of what he brings. He is at least a legit striker with real striker instincts on and off the ball unlike Merino and Havertz. He occupies the CBs the whole game giving the wingers more one v one opportunities. He is helping the rest of his teammates perform better, which is always underrated by most casuals.

Problem is Gyokeres got over hyped the longer the transfer dragged on. You watch so many highlights of him trashing the Portuguese League and you start to believe stuff you probably shouldn't.

Feels like his all round game gets a bit over hyped because he's not getting many goals at the moment.

Everything I've seen so far says he's a good player, a contributor type. Not unlike Kai.

It's not his fault, he's just not really the level of talent we'd hoped. Doesn't mean he can't be a success here still.
I think the sentiment was 50/50 — either he was going to destroy the league or be a complete bust. I was in the “bust” camp, to be honest, since the Portuguese league is basically Tier 3. But as soon as Arsenal signed him, I dropped my bias and became a full-on Gyökeres fanboy.

The reality is, he’s performing way above my expectations. He’s definitely not a bust, and he’s actually an upgrade at the No. 9 spot. With Zubi coming in, we don’t even need that false-nine type dropping deep anymore.

At the moment, we’re not a destination for established world-class players, and he’ll do fine until we outgrow his ability—just like we did with Zinchenko a few years ago

Love his attitude and work rate. The ketchup will start flowing eventually — it’s just a matter of time.

I see you've had a lot to say about a person that hasn't even played 10 games in the league.

Pray.....PRAY this brother doesn't settle in and start smacking in the goals. Because IF he does I'll remember all of the sissy ahhh BS all of you were going on about for the past few days.

@boonthegoon don't think I've missed you liking anything trying to paint Gyokeres badly.

Arsenal fans trying to SH!T on their own signing. Aren't you grown ass men? Experience should teach you by now that some players take time to bed in. Plus the guy cost less than Havertz and is on LESS wages, so I don't even want to hear comparisons.

FS.

Why should we pray that he does not settle and start smacking goals? I want ARSENAL to win trophies and Gyokeres is a big part of that success. So I'm desperate that he starts doing what you mention, I pray that he does it, I don't want anything else than have a striker who can single handed win us games! However, being a realist makes you immediately a hater. Some people ...

Yes, he’ll be judged by his goals. But don’t underestimate how he makes the players around him better — by freeing up passing lanes and making someone like Ødegaard look like a genius again.

I think he'll be ok. Going into the international break top of the table after a tough run of opening fixtures knowing he still has alot to offer should be comforting for him. With a bit of luck he might have another 2-3 goals. If we were struggling and he wasn't scoring it wouldnt be great for his confidence.

Viktor is a hard worker. And he always improves. When you change your game, you will always look worse before it gets better.

I think it's clear to see Gyökeres is trying to adapt to our style of play, the teammates and how teams play in the PL. He already provides space for our other players, and is getting better with the hold-up play an vision.

We are changing with the starting line-up so often that there hasn't been a lot of time to connect w/ the midfield/wingers yet. It's been 7 games in PL and he has played with different players almost every match.

If we look at the data over the last few years though, you can see a lethal goalscorer. Yet we judge him on his last 10 games.

Yeah this is the huge net positive for me. He is taking away one, even two defenders away from other players.

Last season Saka would be doubled up by the opposition because we had no threat up front, they simply can’t do that this year.

Who is? Me? I don’t think it’s a narrative, he is a nice guy.

Agree on the one of the good ones stuff though. It’s always been the way unfortunately.

He is not a nice guy. He is a good man, there is a big difference. Theo Walcott was a nice guy.

Maybe you’re thinking of ‘nice guy’ with negative connotations, based on the other stuff about being one the good ones.

I’m just speaking literally without any context, he’s a nice guy, a good man, a likeable person etc.

Arsenal Quotes

Arsène Wenger's idea is not only to play good football. It's to play good football to win. In my day, we knew that with our style we could hurt teams and win trophies too. But we did it our way, with the positional game, passing, movement.
