It'll be an interesting month or two. I want to give him as much of a chance to succeed here as possible. We've spent the money on him so we may as well give him a full shot before deciding he's

But he's at the stage now where he's probably behind Merino ( at least in form) and he'll likely fall behind Havertz and Jesus if he doesn't pick up form over the next month or so.

As fans we should give him our backing, but ultimately it is on him to perform, a makeshift CF has done it for us better this season which is far from ideal

I honestly think he has a lot of time on his hand.

As soon as one of Djaydus/Kai pick up a bit of form, we all know what's going to happen to one of their knees.

I actually don't care about his average touch or average ability to hold the ball up (despite his frame). What really concerned me was his lack of instincts to get to the Rice cross vs Villa - that's his ****ing bread and butter and would have been the game winner. No where to be found for Zubi's cross yesterday as well. It's so frustrating as he really started to turn the corner and got injured - we don't need him to be a world beater but we need him to start scoring goals at a decentish rate.

My hope was that he was going to be a fat track bully to mid and lower teams, I'll be honest.

@tap-in is right, thogh. This is a team that isn't aclimatized to playing with a striker that plays off the shoulder.

It's what a lot of people were afraid of when we signed him. Credit to him, he has tried to adapt his game and credit to the manager for trying to adapt our style of play, but with so many injuries you can see how and why it's been hard to get that balance right.

The reason Merino was working was due to trossard and sometimes Eze occupying those spaces when he dropped into midfield.

With Leo injured you can already see it not working that well, but it's at least what the players have been comfortable with for the past 18+ months.

None of the CF options have done well in the prem, bar Halaand, at least for the bigger clubs.

Maybe Ekitike at the start of the season?

Like, there's a reason we were all memeing box crashers last season.

One of our main tactics is still bringing it wide and cutting back a lot of the times.

Nothing wrong with being really good at that (or set pieces), but lack of variety does us in in plenty of matches when the mid and low blocks are played effectively.

Let's see how he gets on till the end of the season. We're doing well and scoring goals as a unit so it's not like he has the pressure on him to lead the line that some others have had in our darker days.

If worst comes to worst Berta will find a way to palm him off for £30m or something so it won't be a catastrophe.

Like, the slander isn't even funny. You feel that at least with Kai, Laca and Giroud the banter was good.

I'd expect at least a funny name by now.

Biggest judge of a players quality is his team mates and it’s so obvious they just don’t rate him. He can score 5 against Wolves it wont change anything for me. Having watched him play it’s clear he’s just not good enough

Are you being deliberately thick or does it come naturally? If you buy a striker who runs off the shoulder and don't pass to him when he does that, you should be adjusting your passes to his runs.
We try those balls but they don't work out because Gyokeres just doesn't have the pace.

I read an interview of Woltemade in the German media and he said that the
Premier League is "a different world" because unlike in the Bundesliga, every CB is "at least 1.90 and runs 34km/h"

Gyokeres just looks outmatched in this environment, if you don't have the pace or technical ability to create space for yourself, how on earth are you going to score?

Those lists of strikers banging them in and looking crap elsewhere like Bas Dost and whatnot are starting to look concerning, portugese league tax might be pretty real.

I'm not gonna pile on this guy yet but it's not looking good bruv.

I think the worst part for me is I thought he was a bit of a physical beast because I read before we signed him that he had a 35 km/h max speed which would be martinelli esque so I thought if he was quick and powerful he'd get chances kinda like a temu Haaland but in reality he looks slow, slower than Havertz I'd say.

Somehow Martin doesn’t struggle to find Haaland playing for the national team

I’m sorry but Martin isn’t the problem here

Yeah I watch Norway obviously and Gyokeres wouldn't score 1/3rd of the chances Haaland scores honestly. He is so dominant in the air and shrugs off defenders with ease when he gets the chance to run in behind. While Gyokeres looks like he can't head the ball properly or jump well and also is pretty slow and needs too many touches to control the ball when there does seem to be a chance to play him through. He needs very clear cut chances to score, haaland actually doesn't despite what people say about him. I'm really not hating or exaggarating here, there just are very clear differences between them in terms of levels. Not to mention haaland is extremely good at finding space and being in a good position to recieve the ball. While he can bully dfenders he doesn't wrestle with them all game like Gyoekeres does.

I was hoping he would be Haaland lite, and score 25+ goals in all comps, but that isn’t going to happen. Although Haaland has skewed what a ‘good’ striker is, that freak will go down as one of the greatest goalscorers of all time when done and would win the golden boot if he played for Everton.

The bar wasn’t high here for Viktor either, our PL top scorer last season didn’t reach double figures.

i think his box movement not good enough at all (i agree with that) but arteta system also contribute make him become even worse, so this is combination

remember not easy to get trust from arteta (really really hard) especially arteta is not risk taker, there is no way arteta will change his system for gyokeres

no doubt gyokeres better finisher than jesus and havertz, so in term of style i think jesus, merino and havertz more suit arteta system but i still prefer jesus or merino at cf

Almost ready to publish my findings; the analytical football nerds were proven correct by looking at his videos and past playing history, putting it into the context of the leagues he was playing and the way Arteta plays. Every analytical football nerd pretty much wrote him off. This is where my concerns began - the consistency of this opinion.

The "vibes" former player, pundits are in the mud.

Its fair.. Gyokeres was better until he got injured and Ødegaard came back from his injury...
Gyokeres needs to improve himself of course.
But our midfielders must play more direct if Gyokeres is on the pitch...
Jesus, Havertz, and Merino have more touches and have more opportunities because our midfielders always play with this kind of striker. They dont run behind defenders.

the only chance gyokeres can produce goals if Ødegaard stay higher up the pitch (atleast he need receive ball in middle third NOT receive ball in our defensive third),

so that will make Ødegaard more closer behind gyokeres & can give through ball to him just like this video below

before gyokeres get injured i saw arsenal style more direct even we attack through middle for a lot times which is suit gyokeres style

but since merino very good as false nine so far (even can score header in the box) then suddenly we did not play more direct more with vertical pass when gyokeres comeback from injury, its look like there is correlation with this tweet below

I funny blame Arteta. Merino is the definition of X factor. His header against Newcastle is the example of what he consistently deliver

It's like in real life, you don't get the ball if we don't trust you. When you play with your friends, is the same stuff; if you suck, you are not going to get the ball.
Simple as.

I like him, I like his movement, his power, and his directness. But he is not very good technically so when we are building up play, if someone else is free, that other player is going to get the ball, not him.

People don’t want him to fail, he is failing.
Those who expected 20+ goals this season from him were deluded.
He is not failing; he is delivering to his ability.

Similar to Martinelli, he has a selling and it is there to be seen.

If I had a time machine, I would have gone for Wolftemade or Ekitike. We got a very good striker, but one that does not suit us or our football.
