Yeah, which is Liverpool's problem.

It has no influence over how good or bad a signing Gyokeres has been for us.
Agreed but they of all people should not be speaking lol. Spent all that money and in both games played touch butt and keep away with the ball over 180 min. Fair play it's up to us to go get it but they need to settle down a little bit.

Of course, Wrighty is giving good advice. My question is what he's being told by the coaches. That's the question we don't have an answer for. Is he being coached properly and not listening? Is he being coached against his instincts to fit a role that doesn't quite suit him? Is it some combination of him not having the instincts we thought he had and there also not being anyone to coach his movement? He's certainly shown flashes of decent movement but since he's come back from the injury those flashes have been few and far between.

Yeah. I get why people didn’t want him, being too similar to Havertz and his youth were valid drawbacks.

But hes at the very least taller, faster and has a better touch/link up play than Gyok. That was evident even last summer.

In an Arteta team as a center forward, you just have to have some basic back to goal/link up skill. It’s a prerequisite.
Neither of them has set the league on fire and their stats are similar but with Sesko you can see pace, power and technique. Gyok was meant to be the a better goalscorer to compensate for that which hasn’t been seen. He’s at peak age as well it’s now or never for him while Sesko still has time to improve.

Tbh I think we all feared that there'd be a style mismatch and we're seeing that play out, he doesn't receive the ball where he expects or wants to as much as he's not in the position our team expects him to be.

I saw a post on X saying Arteta should model Gyokeres’ game on Edinson Cavani. They also added “Similar profiles in terms of their strengths & weaknesses” 😂😂😂 have these tacticos lost the plot as they’re nothing alike. Cavani had one of the best movements for a striker in the last decade whereas Gyokeres is trying to do his best impersonation of Juggernaut but it’s failing.

Yesterday I watched the AFCON quarters and I wasn’t even focusing my attention on Osimhen but as the game went on, it was very apparent that the club fumbled (not even sure why Osi was off the table) as he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. If we weren’t trying to spend big on a striker then Osi would have been the move to make, a few of us did suggest him but I’m sure Arteta was put off probably from his off the pitch dramas or not wanting to play second fiddle which to me doesn’t really make sense:

He’s more well rounded (can trap the ball in the air like Teta wants), is a massive aerial threat compared to Gyok and causes chaos with his movement/in behind runs.

This guy has fumbled his career, has all the ingredients to have been a PL great but no one watches him play cos he was asking for 400k a week or something.

Those were the reports going around at the time but it actually seems pretty similar to Kai’s salary allegedly 😅

I know which of the two that I would have offered that to.

Profile wise he is the ideal forward for Arteta ball. Big, physical, competent back to goal and dominates the box.

I’ve probably his biggest critic on here, but even I didn’t imagine it would be this bad.

Feel sorry for the guy at this point. He hasn’t even been able to demonstrate his ballstriking. The club need to learn from this one, and Mikel needs to protect the player (and person) and bit and take him out of the limelight for a while.

@Rasmi was right, statistically worse striker in the PL.

Saka, Ødegaard, rice and trossrd all want to dwell on the ball, to run with the ball, to create openings, to recycle possession and to showboat and try to be the main man, to take shots.

Their job should be to find qyokeres quickly. Pass the frikking ball fast. He is the striker. They all need to be rested till they understand this. Or rest Gyok. I am quite disappointed in Sakas attitude this season

Start him against Pompey. Nobody else is fit enough or definitively more reliable. Hit him early. Give him a chance to get some goals flowing.

He's been very poor, but there's no way he's as poor as those stats. The champions league would indicate otherwise.

He's taking so much **** that I'd love him to succeed, he needs to help himself though. We are are hard team to play as a number 9 in, no doubt about it, but before Kai is fully fit it, in the cups, is where go get it going.

League difficulty aside he’s also lost a ton of confidence.

I know it was Leeds (who aren’t even that bad defensively tbf) but the Gyokeres who picked up the ball from halfway line and ran past two defenders before shooting isn’t here anymore.

That’s why I say I’ve seen worse footballers than him score in this league. His head and confidence is completely gone and now he looks even worse than he actually is.

Ironically, Gyökeres was far better in his first handful of games - Leeds, Forest, Newcastle, and Burnley were all games he was very good. He's completely dropped off from even those levels.

No matter what failings he has on the ball - his complete inability to attack crosses or have a sniff or instinct for where the ball might end up is what's killing it for me. He's not even there for the tap-ins.

This article from James Benge is an eye opener - we create the most cut backs itl but we don't score a lot from them. It's infuriating as Gyökeres was bought to be smashing these types of goals in.

This is interesting because everyone saying we are not playing to his strengths and need major tactical overhaul to get the best out of him.

So he is a striker not good at cut backs?

When Patrick Vieira came over from AC Milan, he didn’t know a word of English. We gave him accommodation, phone, car and an English teacher. I talked to Patrick in fluent French and before a game I asked in French, can you speak a bit of English to me? Patrick nodded and replied: Tottenham are shit!
