Yeah it is for me, he's in his peak and these numbers would be good if he was more of a project but not for a win now guy. As I said, you have to wait for the season to finish to judge his return but he needs to score more.

Also no point comparing Kai who was brought in a CM.
"win now guy"

that does not mean s h i t because we still barely play for his strength with through ball and also Ødegaard still injury

I really liked what I saw yesterday, looked very assured

Would love to see a goal soon where he smashes it into the corner and shows his finishing quality, haven’t really seen that yet

isak newton, ekitiktok, tesco, none of them scored against bum relegation burnley

so to all people who disagree for gyokeres signing, just shush man shush

Everyone with eyes saw the difference between having Gyok on the pitch vs not and it was very stark. His presence alone gives us a structure and platforms our other attackers. We looked completely clueless without him.
Yeah it definitely wasn’t cope when people were defending his goalless games by pointing to his occupying the CBs and so on.

I think he’s good enough for us to win titles with if paired with two elite wingers just because of how much space he grants them.

I am a bit worried about the license defenders seem to have to elbow him, wrestle and foul him, trip him up with without any repercussions.

They don’t even give it as fouls, he should have at least 2 pens since he came but for. some reason fouling him is fair game
It will come with time. There’ll be a high profile one where it becomes to obvious to ignore and/or Mikel will call it out at some point.

Just imagine how good he will be when Kai is back and he can actually get some rest to recover his energy levels. Even when he wasn't having his best games, his selfless running allowed more space for Saka and co to do some damage.
His best two games for us were against Burnley and Newcastle and no surprise to me the games prior to these were the league cup games where he was rested.

Happy to see him score but you can see how he knows he's struggling a bit compared to what he expects/demands from himself. His celebrations look more like relief than the cyborg-like confidence he had in Portugal.

He is getting carried by his work rate and solid movement right now, which in fairness is a credit to him considering he comes from a league where he could quite easily cut inside from the wing and have shots at goal. He's adapting and using his tools without acting like the world is against him, just doing his best.

He reminds me a bit of Antonio (but better before you ****ing slaughter me). Antonio joined us as a tricky winger in the Championship but rediscovered himself as a hard working bully target man as his dribbling and touch just wasn't all that at the highest level. Similar thing with Gyokeres here IMO, he's had to almost abandon his old style of play but has very quickly found a way to be impactful anyway.

He's terrorising defenders and scoring at a reasonably steady rate. That's what we need him to do even if it's hard work for him at the moment.

Getting Havertz back will help him (and us) a lot imo. Will let him be rested more and make defences have to adjust to two entirely different types of CF.

Generally I was quite happy about his performance yesterday but still if we’re putting a microscope on certain aspects of his game compared to the top bracket CF in recent years then the situation below is something I’ve seen of his game where he could do much better:

IMG_1291.jpeg

I know he went past Kyle Walker in a similar situation just after this but that wasn’t really with his back to goal. In the above, he runs this towards the corner flag and passes it back to Trossard IIRC however there’s enough time there to spin that defender and put himself in a more promising position. I’ve seen him take the safer approach in recent games similar to the above than try to go 1 vs 1 against the CB or fullback. Slightly different situations but I feel he has it in his locker, so it’ll be interesting to see whether he’ll be able to do in the coming months with a bit of confidence:

It is still weird the perception that he is struggling but the same a lot of people are raving about Etikite and Woltemade and to a lesser extent Cunha, Joao Pedro etc. None of them have more goals than him but also apart from Woltemade none of them provide the off the ball movement and hold up play like he does.

Take the much lauded Etikite for example, I watched him closely in his last two games against Brentford and Aston Villa. Hardly had a kick against Brentford and when he did get the ball he gave it away. Against Villa he was a bit better, some decent link up play and had a goal disallowed but had only 15 touches and a 8/12 pass completion. So he scored zero goals in those games while being for most part anonymous. I'm not having a go at him and do understand players don't perform in every game but when I see performances like that and I still see so much praise for him while Gyok for the most part is being questioned if he can even hack it in this league.

I do get it Etikite is younger and Gyok is supposed to be a more ready now player but as fans we shouldn't buy into this media and oppo led narratives where we think Gyokeres isn't living up to expectations whereas strikers at our rivals are being portrayed they have been a success when in both goals and all round play none of them have performed better than Gyokeres.

So tired of this narrative that he is flopping. His numbers are similar to Ektike and he gives more off the ball qualities than Ektike. Ektike was also a bigger fee. He has settled well for a new league and new team. Plus our best playmaker of recent seasons; Ode has barely played. There is a weird double standard in these narratives
