we need a defender ready to go straight in to the first team not on of the hotest prospects in europe who would need to wait for some seasons to be a regular

its much easier to be realistic when every big club in europe hasnt been linked with this kid. and if hes gonna turn out to be as strong a player as he appears, then overpaying a little now rather than a LOT later might be the path we must take.

I think £6m for a teenage defender is overpaying a little tbh.

But that's the point - IF someone like Juventus signed him, and he's a hit, he'll be worth 30 million 2 years from now. Like any investment, it's a calculated risk.

Its not exactly what we need right now... but I really, really like this kid. He has great potential and physical attributes.

But what I am most impressed by is his attitude and image of "clean living and hard work".

Maybe it is all a front.. but he seems like a guy who is going to have a solid career for many years given his work ethic, maturity, and approach to football.

apparantly chelsea are the only club to have inquired about him so far.

if this is really the case, then it proves the theory that Chelski just buy players so other teams cant have them.. he has no real chance of progressing at Chelski since Terry, Gallas and Carvalho are all young enough in their own right... (and they have Huth as well)... they would just do this to block the competition... they have absolutely NO need for another CB...

ridiculous

I would luv us to sign a first team CB like say Ayala (Just using an example). But we should also try and get Kompany for a reasonable price.

A Kompany Senderos combination will guarantee us defensive stability for the next 10 years at least.

Sol
Ayala
Sendo
Kompany

Now that is what I call 4 quality CB's that can do the job for the next 10 years plus.

huth wants out so i imagine they want to replace him with another youngster. they were in for kompany last year as well before they signed carvalho (according to mourinho) but they were quoted a crazy price.

Is Kompany better than Senderos? If yes is he so much better that we should demote Senderos just to fit this guy in? I have seen him a few times and he doesn't really look better than Senderos to me but I may be wrong.

We need a specialist CB who can fit right in, we have Senderos for the future.

ayala is obviously a good choice for experienced CB... but buy kompany lentd him back to anderlecht for another season or two.. imagine ramos, senderos, kompany, cole.. the best back four in the world!

Hmmm... I may be drunk, but I think Senderos might need a partner for the future too? So signing Kompany, as a long term partner for Senderos, may be particularly smart. And if Sol spends much more time on the treatement table, neither will be too short of playing time...

what about KT? ok he's been poor recently but he's young. and we cannot forget he had a fantastic season last year which was no fluke. so he needs sol to hold his hands, but that is a situation that can change by the time sol retires. i just dont believe he can be written off as a center back. i'm not even convinced yet that senderos is better than kolo. IMO we only need one cb, a player to replace cygan whose contract is up soon. wheteher that cb goes into the first team (with toure and sendo as back up) or plays cygan's back up role is wenger's choice.

kompany could be worth double that considering the strong interest in him all over europe. it was only last year chelsea were quoted over 20 million.

i'm of the same opinion. one centerback is needed right now. preferably someone very experienced and of proven pedigree. let kolo and senderos be the back-ups. also, everyone's jumping on kolo's back after this season. he didnt turn into a pile of crap overnight. he's had a bad season. i'm sure he'll come back from it. we just need to get rid of cygan and replace him with someone really good to start with sol

mm well how does Robert Kovac on a free sound?? THat means we can by Kompany as back up and get a world class Centre back. He marked Henry the first leg in Bayern

By the way does this guy play at RB? Last year Wenger was close to getting a RB in Trabelsi. In January he did pick up Eboue and the small deal offered to Lauren (initially 1 year)and the link to RB's like Sergio Ramos means its possible Wenger has other ideas for that position. Just wanted to know if he can play the RB spot or is he just a CB?

Yes, he plays RB - for instance int he belgian national squad - and he does it very well, too.

Great player. Him - and e.g. Essien, SWP or Hleb would be the perfect addition to our squad.
