Was the Arsenal fanbase too hard on Giroud - France's all time leading goalscorer?

Were the fans too harsh on Giroud?

The guy who made the video claimed he put in all the key passes from Özil to Giroud during that season. If this is true he scored more than he missed.

Yea that's BS just from memory. Özil made 147 key passes that season. Obviously not all to Giroud but a large number of them were and he wasted chance after chance. Giroud that season had a conversion rate of 16% or a goal every 6.3 shots or so

Sure, he had his moments, but generally he was mostly frustrating.

We were even seriously experimenting with Walcott up top, just to get rid of this donkey. Says it all.

I have PTSS because of Giroud. Very insensitive that you made this thread.

People get irritated when you bring up Auba or Guendouzi but all these years later there’s still Giroud talks. Typical of Arsenal-Mania.

A better thread would be were Cole, Vp, etc we’re we right to be harsh or we’re they wrong to leave the way they did in hindsight.

We already know the answers about Ashley Cole and Van Persie though. Everyone knew they were great.

It’s much more interesting with Giroud because everyone was so certain he was sh*t but then he went on and had a pretty great career doing better than Arsenal were.

What's interesting about the Oli G types is they take a lot longer to peak as they don't have that obvious pace as a weapon, but all of his skills are the types of skills that improve with age - body positioning, finishing, guile, strength etc.

As long as his non-existent pace didn't decline even more he was always going to be a late bloomer.

To me, Giroud is akin to the Henderson of strikers. Can shine and do a great job when surrounded by players of quality, but you don't want to rely on him as your star. That's not necessarily a slight on him either.

His headers are elite though.

That's like saying Vermaelen was great because he went to barca and won a lot lol. It's not like giroud played better after he left.

Giroud would've been great as a nr.2 not as main striker tho

Nah its night and day, Giroud left and won the CL with Chelsea after winning the World Cup with France both as an important member of those teams, having scored 6 goals in the CL and lead the line at the WC.

Vermaelen played 1 game the whole season when Barca won the CL in 14-15 and played a total 50 or so games across 4 seasons.

Giroud directly contributed to those successes but Vermaelen was just kinda there while other people won stuff...very different.

Also won the Italian league and is now top scorer for France NT of all time, he's objectively had a fantastic career.

I'm saying that he coasted lots also. Obviously not Vermaelen levels. I don't think he became better after leaving us, and him winning trophies doesn't really impact that, which is the point i was making

His donkey decision highlight reel would be a full three hour blockbuster.

His goals highlight reel and donkey highlight reel are both equally amazing, not sure any other player can match him for that...will confuse the hell out of future generations
