Was the Arsenal fanbase too hard on Giroud - France's all time leading goalscorer?

Were the fans too harsh on Giroud?

Nope.

Despite scoring some beautiful goals with him as a striker, as a team we always looked better when Welbeck or Alexis or even Theo started as strikers.

Also his regular stinkers cost us a lot. He just started more for us because both Welbeck and Theo could never keep themselves fit.

Yes, but we're too hard on most people. Rightfully so, this is the Arsenal ffs.

In these strange times though if only Giroud abused the fans a little he would be considered an icon now, so it's a hard question to answer

Apart from the fact he’s won trophies everywhere he’s gone and even though there’s “better” technical footballers he’s still getting started for a top international side.

Europa League final, two unreal FA Cup winning assists, Allianz away, huge goals for Chelsea to get them out the CL group then beat Atletico which btw was a worldie overhead kick, goals in the semi finals of FA Cup, goals and assists in successful Euro and World Cup campaigns.

Not to mention all the last minute equalisers or game winners he scored for us over the years in the league. Found this on his time at Milan as a 35 year old.

But sure that one game stinker he had against Monaco is his legacy. Top stuff.
Cool, how many **** players have triumphed in Italy? Doesn't mean much.

He was the only striker to start every match in a world cup without even a shot on goal. That World Cup victory in a really poor French team, honestly, has ballooned his urban legend status to unbelievable lengths.

We've all watched Giroud play lots. He's a great character, a fantastic header of the ball, and a very good finisher and decent box striker. His lack of mobility and poor link up play (yes, this is an utter myth--one of the biggest in football, honestly, that Giroud has good link up play--about him, because his flicks and wall passes when they come off are memorable, but it has no actual foundation to it) are big issues for a club at the top level.

He was a fantastic back up striker for us. And for Chelsea. That's his level at the top level. People make such a simple thing so complicated with him, throwing all kinds of myths and hype at the issue.

I think the fact we didn’t win the PL in 15/16 pretty much sums him up no?

We had elite creative numbers, and Sanchez Özil Cazorla and others feeding him. A great striker would have scored 20+ goals and won us the league.

I said big games. You’re mentioning league quality.

You lot wanna try and justify your hours wasted on a forum hating a guy who’s gonna end up leading scorer for France.

Tough.

His legend is such that even his "failure" on that season (24 goals all comps, 16 on the league), brought the Premier League the best event in their history, a lot better than 93:20

Lol what the hell, he cost us a title, obviously fans have a right to berate him for that. He went on to do great things elsewhere but he cost us a title, ain’t never forgetting that.

He aged like fine wine for sure, but he took his apprenticeship here and as Arteta says we (the club) paid the bill.

I do not condone the extra abuse and singling out, so if that's what we are talking about? yes the fanbase were too harsh, but that's the same for Eboue, Gervinho and other mixed players the fans chose to get overly mad at.

In terms of expectations, disappointment and eye rolling when people try to bring him up positively in retrospect? No the fans were not too harsh. This thread is just trolling anyways.

You try this agenda every few months and you just piss people off and bring up bad memories it's the same each time. Then you ingest a bunch of hallucinogens and forget expecting different answers.

It’s not an agenda if it’s the truth.

Run up the Drogba comparisons again init? You might convert someone tonight if you're lucky.

Funnily enough did you know that they had an identical strike rate in the PL?

3 pages until the Laca comparison that's actually pretty good for A-M :applause:

Go on Rex, tell us more.

Very similar players. Drogba had his troughs like that season he scored 11 goals in 30 starts.

Had a couple too many seasons with single digit numbers. Difference was he was absolutely huge in big games as was Olivier.

Wrong. That season an elite striker would have gotten us 40+ goals.
Can't believe he kept us hostage with such a midfield and Sanchez. Embarrassing.
