France just has a lot of CBs; it is probably their strongest position and the best group in the world. Saliba is still best of bunch but that many other good central defenders will cut into his opportunities till he shows his class at International level. He will beat those guys out and even a dummy like Deschamps will see it. But it is fair that he has to compete now. He is still young, and has limited international experience. By Euros if he is healthy i expect him to be first choice.

I am 100% convinced he will not be starting at the Euros, Deschamps is exactly like Southgate (it's his favs to start no matter what)

Think Petit is a bit under rated by many Arsenal-fans. Was superb for us.
Petit did score the game winning goal in WC final, didn’t he score France’s first goal?

Good his loss and win for Arsenal. International football should be binned anyway. Bunch of tossers dressing up in battle flags of their cruel overlords to watch mediocre football

No I think it was the 3rd goal, that they didn't actually need. All the same.

I remember salty English MOTD commentators on Petit after the world cup when the PL restated saying 'well your career's not going to top that'. Yea your careers never got to that level you wankers.

It's funny mate, because in the modern day I kind of agree. But back in the 90s and especially the 80s, it was a whole other level to domestic competition. Pre-internet and pe-CL it was pretty exciting seeing all of the international stars line up

Also it was in the 4-4-2 era before modern tactics so you got much sexier football where ballers balled.

Too many competitions. No one cares about Nations league. They want to squeeze the lemon of every dollar revenue. The old system you got up for Euro or WC. Social media and video games are just killing sports interest and participation. The viewer or consumer has so many options they don’t need sports as much. The kids don’t care as much as they used to either, they get so much money many just checkout.

Plus the game was not as fast but was more technical and more physical. It is rate to see a good hard sliding challenge anymore. All the rules favor attacking and so do balls. But i see great athletes but not many artists or street ballers

I find it bizarre they way he is treated by France. Konate isnt a better player, our underlying defensive metrics are better than Liverpool and Konate isnt even Liverpool's lead defender. I also remember Konate being subbed off against Everton despite Liverpool having a man advantage due to Konate being run ragged.

Saliba is the player who underpins our entire defensive performance (which is the best in the league in terms of Xga & shots conceded) We are giving up less chances than any other team in the PL. Yet Dechumps is picking everyone over him. Konate, Varane, Upamecano, even that guy from Nice. I dont know if Dechamps is giving him a tough love treatment, a bit like Arteta did for a while, or whether Dedump actually thinks Saliba is not as good as those others.

His latest comments really pissed me off, as its like he is implying that Saliba should leave Arsenal. Anyone know if Dechamps has a reason to hate Arsenal? Did he and Wenger ever have an issue, or maybe one of the French players from previous years.

French just like to be contrarians. We say he is the best defender and in my worst french accent "no no no, monseuir, he is not the best defender, we have far better defenders in france already". Remember Giroud was starting ahead of a whole bunch of peak strikers at different times.

I think you should cry more about it.

If it wasn’t forced then how come we only got 30m for a world class player with 4 years on his deal?

The club lacked the testicular fortitude to sit his arse on the bench

It happened because Cesc forced the move and Barca publicly tapped him up for over 2 years.

Alarming that Arsenal fans are blaming the club when Barca should have been punished and Cesc deserves most of the blame as Rice showed us all years later the proper conduct.

Tbf Saliba has been poor for France almost everytime he starts for them, it's obviously not just down to him but the team always seems to have a defensive meltdown when he plays. I'm not surprised Deschamps isn't convinced by him yet. That said I think we should appreciate that he's not playing as much for them now as he's saved and fresh for Arsenal instead, eventually he will become their starting CB, of that I have no doubt.

Arsenal fans are so insecure. Making up conspiracy theories as to why he isn't starting for France. It's simple, as @Jasinho said he's been mostly poor when given the opportunity.

Deschamps will be too clever for his own good one day. Not playing Salba almost cost him the game against Gibraltar.

For starters, Deschamps plays Saliba on the left side when Saliba's strength is clearly on the right.

Not really true, his 3 most recent appearances have been at LCB (1start+2 subs), before this he's only ever played at RCB in either a back 4 or back 3 for France.

Don't disagree with any of that, but if you cave to it then you're also to blame. Absolving the club of any responsibility for a player who had 4 years left on his contract leaving the club is naiive, especially for the paltry fee.
