Don't disagree with any of that, but if you cave to it then you're also to blame. Absolving the club of any responsibility for a player who had 4 years left on his contract leaving the club is naiive, especially for the paltry fee.

We were both around to witness it so if that's how you feel about it fair enough. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if we put our foot down but we will never know.

Petit did score the game winning goal in WC final, didn’t he score France’s first goal?

Good his loss and win for Arsenal. International football should be binned anyway. Bunch of tossers dressing up in battle flags of their cruel overlords to watch mediocre football

Heartbreaking the worst person you know made a good point blah blah blah.

I find it bizarre they way he is treated by France. Konate isnt a better player, our underlying defensive metrics are better than Liverpool and Konate isnt even Liverpool's lead defender. I also remember Konate being subbed off against Everton despite Liverpool having a man advantage due to Konate being run ragged.

Saliba is the player who underpins our entire defensive performance (which is the best in the league in terms of Xga & shots conceded) We are giving up less chances than any other team in the PL. Yet Dechumps is picking everyone over him. Konate, Varane, Upamecano, even that guy from Nice. I dont know if Dechamps is giving him a tough love treatment, a bit like Arteta did for a while, or whether Dedump actually thinks Saliba is not as good as those others.

His latest comments really pissed me off, as its like he is implying that Saliba should leave Arsenal. Anyone know if Dechamps has a reason to hate Arsenal? Did he and Wenger ever have an issue, or maybe one of the French players from previous years.

Deschamps doesn't give a **** about Arsenal. One would argue, nor should he.

He has shown by neglecting the likes of Theo, Payet, and Benzema for as long as he did, that club form is secondary to players he likes and gets on best with. Arteta himself picked Mustafi and Kolasinac at CB over Saliba a couple of seasons ago. He'll get his moment.

Tbh I'd already resigned myself to him leaving, the £30m fee was a complete pisstake though...Best creative midfielder in the world at the time, guys like Pastore going for more in the same timeframe.

I'd have been a lot happier if we sat his arse on the bench until Barca paid what he was worth, in the £50m range at the time for me. I know I can't spend the money, but at least you can reinvest that money later on.

It happened because Cesc forced the move and Barca publicly tapped him up for over 2 years.

Alarming that Arsenal fans are blaming the club when Barca should have been punished and Cesc deserves most of the blame as Rice showed us all years later the proper conduct.

Look how Man Utd handled the Ronaldo move and he was forcing it as well. Fergie told him to stay one more season and said he could leave the next if Madrid met the asking price. Utd who were winning league titles and CL accepted that the player was going and made the best deal they could. We refused to make any sort of deal and ended up selling at the end of the window for a pittance. We had 2 years to handle it why did it have to go down to the last minute?

If you think it wasn’t due to the club then look at how the Sanchez transfer was handled. Turned down a 50-60m fee for him in the summer and ended up being forced into a much worse deal in the December window. At a certain point you need to look inward to see where the problem was.

I am 100% convinced he will not be starting at the Euros, Deschamps is exactly like Southgate (it's his favs to start no matter what)

To a degree. You can't ever accuse Deschamps of bringing the game into disrepute by fielding a Maytag fridge at the back.

Our players are so good for us now, that man has to move on to try and rubbish them for their countries just to keep his agenda alive 🤣

Looks like Saliba has immediately taken us to back to back league title challenges (after not challenging since 2008) and is consistently performing as one of the best CBs in the world...but because Deschamps is weird and a reserve French side drew with Greece, sadly it means he's **** lads...damn!

The French team has always been a bit weird with Arsenal players and I never know why. I tried to hear it, but I don't think the Saliba criticisms from some of them man are legit anyways.

I read it and it comes across nitpicky - when he wasn't playing for Arsenal though French media had a lot to say.

Whenever Saliba starts, France fails to win... interesting...

Deschamps and Desailly assessments are not wrong.
To be fair when you have a *** like Kounde who gets easily done by a farmer from Greece, there's only so much the CB can do.
