I'm confused. We couldn't play him because of the troubling time he's had on a personal level, but he can play in the French ligue 1 immediately? And he wasn't ready, but Mustafi, who's contract we are now looking to terminate, is.

The troubling time thing was made up. He turned up for pre season unfit because he had missed a lot of football and been in lockdown and Arteta decided to bin him. The player himself said in an interview that he was ready and wanted to play. It was an awful decision.

Can't wait to see him back at Arsenal. If there's even a hint that he's getting sold or something Arteta needs to piss off asap.

No he decided he would be better off playing week in week out instead of filling a role in the squad where he there in case of an emergency. People keep bring up Mustafi but he has played a total of 133 minutes in the competitions Saliba was eligible after we failed to loan him and had already submitted our Europa league squad.

You can argue the merits of Arteta not giving him a chance to be a number 1 option, although having one of the best defences in the league no doubt vindicates Arteta decision. But the right move once he reached that decision, which is the move they decided with plenty of time left in the transfer window was to loan him and this is where the failure begins and ends. It also coincides with Huss Famahmy who was in charge of securing him a loan losing his job, coincidence maybe but also might have been the final straw.

Not sure how Arteta wanting to give Saliba the game time he needs in order to develop has been turned into a negative.

I have watched him the other day against Lens. Clean sheet for Nice and Saliba bossed all the game from back. Strong, good on one to one positions, technical player, fast, good in the air, athletic, perfect positional awareness etc. He has every quality that one can expect from top defender. I understand why they rate him over fofana. Shame that Arteta & Edu forced him out of the club to accomodate their customers like Luiz, Gabriel and Mari.

No the season started 4 months ago not this month. Sending him on loan now doesn’t explain why he was binned for the first 4 months of the season. His form now shows he was ready to play and he said he wanted to play. Not playing him was a mistake.

Cry more.

We've conceded the second least amount of shot on targets and have potentially the second best defensive record in the league once other teams have played the same number of games, as it stands it's good enough for fourth best.

Saliba wasn't registered for Europa league therefore couldn't play those games, the reason he wasn't registered as he was expected to go out on loan as the squad needed to be finalised prior to the transfer window shutting. The other games which he could have featured in were 3 COC games which Arteta instead used a combination of his starting CB's and our back up and experienced option in Luiz. I mean he could have used Saliba instead of Luiz but for the sake of a one off outing, the smarter decision is to use a player you're hoping to call on throughout the season rather than the guy who you are sending out on loan.

You idiots act we concede 20 shots a game and are the worst defensive team in the league and that Saliba alone could fix what literally isn't a problem.

I'm really surprised by the fact that we can't blame Arteta for anything. The treatment shown against Saliba was atrocious, as simple as that. He wasn't involved in a single minute for Arsenal for god's sake.

You make good points. Main issue was not loaning Saliba from the beginning. Wasted 4 months of his devolpment.

He lost his parent(s?) something like 6 months ago.

How hard is this to understand?
I know but it seems like sending him to U23 and not giving him a chance with first team made that situation worse for him. You see it in Saliba own words he wanted to play ffs!

You idiots act like we have Nesta and Cannavaro in defence while the reality is we were not conceding goals because we were playing 11 men in defence. We weren’t scoring or doing anything much up front either. Having fvcked up the loan the correct thing to do was to give him his debut and ease him into the team.

Now we have the awkward scenario of a 30m massive talent of a defender who has been at the club for 4 months without making his debut. He even said himself in a streamed talk with Lacazette that he doesn’t feel like an Arsenal player because he hasn’t made his debut yet. He’s obviously upset with the situation and he wanted to play. We are 11th in the league what could have gone wrong if he at least made his debut and got some time in the cups?

Backing the manager is one thing but finding excuses for his incompetent handling of a top young talent is another.

Eleven men behind the ball is the worst argument on here. Artetas team rarely loses its shape and rarely do we have 11 men behind the ball. Its like many of you haven't seen a defensively well coached team before. Just because our side doesn't lose its shape often doesn't mean we are set up negatively like you've stated. Arteta deserves criticism for the way we set up in an attacking sense with wingers playing way to wide and Saka and Tierney sharing the same wing but the idea we are simply good defensively because we have numbers behind the ball is rubbish and lazy.

A young player wanted to play, imagine my shock at that revelation. Guess what Arteta agreed and its why he sent him on loan so he could play week in week out, when he was more confidence in his current options who for the most part have vindicated that decision.

We are 10th and yet a week before Saliba was sent on loan were 4 points from a relegation spot. But hey, what could have gone bar potential relegation.

It wasn’t personal levels, he was unfit because of a long term injury and not playing football cos of lockdown. He wasn’t ready for the league and went back to France to get match fit.

Im not criticizing the decision to send him out on loan so don’t straw man the argument. The criticism is on his decision to leave him out entirely having fvcked up the loan. There is no reason why he shouldn’t have played a few games for us. The player is now unsettled he said himself he doesn’t feel like an Arsenal player because he hasn’t made his debut. How much of a slap in the face is it for such a highly rated young player to not be deemed good enough to make his debut? We are 11th in the league and are out of both domestic cups we have been poor by anyone’s standards. We should be looking to bring him into the team this season at least get the debut out of the way and make him feel part of the team.

Saliba is not just some random player we have he’s a top young talent. For the first time I can remember in the 20+ years I’ve been supporting this team we have a genuinely top class young core of players. Managers like Wenger and Fergie would be looking to build a team around these youngsters. The fact that he’s now playing well shows that all he needed was game time which we could have given him.

What he said himself, was that although he’d have liked to have played, he wasn’t fit nor ready. French football last season was cancelled and he fell back on so much development. Then there’s also the personal tragedies he’s suffered. It’s not the time for him to be out of his comfort zone as a French teenager in England. Arteta was right to protect him by not playing him. Factoring in all of that, Arteta was right not to play him, he wasn’t ready. In France he can be more comfortable.
