Brentford would be decent. Quality manager and football.

Also Godfrey was sold from Norwich, and they can do okay in Championship, and play possession football. Needs to be starting many games.

My worry for him is the bereavement. Losing a parent is hard at any age, and he's only 19. The mental impact is huge and very underestimated. I think this more than anything has played a part in him not starting for us.

Adriano was potentially a world beater with a cannon of a left foot. But he never recovered after his dad died. This has to be managed properly and taking him away from the pressure and lime light could be what he needs.

Arteta much like Arsène cares about people and I think they will do well for him.

I was curious about this whole transition thing until I heard this. He was one of St Etienne's key players. No doubt he can contribute for us, but push him now and maybe the next van Dijk becomes the next Silvestre. I trust Arteta to handle this.

Championship loan would be good for him, if it doesn't happen though he has to start the El games at least, no reason why he can't play in those easy games..

Leicester splashed the cash on Fofana who one can argue is at a similar stage in his development, yet we're looking to loan out Big Willy to the championship who's even higher rated?

There's no way he's not ready to play Europa games at least, guy was a first team regular for St Etienne.

This is key. Same age, and they came from the same team playing together at the heart of the defence. How they develop will be interesting. Fofana will not get many minutes this season. He will be training and developing. Much like Soyuncu in his first season. However they managed to get him ready for his second season without loaning him.

Sending him to brentford or Watford means he is close. It means we can keep him up to date with tactical changes we make. Brentford also have a set piece specialist and a goalkeeper that we actually wanted. So it will be interesting to see if he ends up there.

He may not face the quality in 1v1 situations like the Premier League, but he will play a lot of matches and face alot of aerial challenges. Loans to the Championship for defensive players seem to be more representative of the performance they will put in the Premier League. More so than an attacking player.

Clearly there is a way though because Arteta and coaches have had a look at him and don't think he's ready...

I hope does well on loan, but more than that, I hope he's able to get his personal issues under control. It's been a difficult year for him but we must extend his contract by two years and hope he's PL ready by the start of next season.
On another note, Upamecano has a release clause of £36.5m. Lots of Utd rumours but with our CB departures next summer, we should be looking closely at him as well.

I don’t think it’s that he’s not ready to play those games, it’s more that playing 30-40 times rather than 10 times is more of a benefit. CBs don’t get subbed on in games so the only chance he’ll have to play is those 6 group games and the odd FA cup tie. He’s not going to benefit and develop with such little playing time.

Rumours are his mum died earlier this year. In combination with his injuries and France season ending short - it may be true what Arteta says, he is short of development and simply not ready. The odd cup game won’t be enough if that’s the case.

I didn’t watch any of the reserve games he was in but apparently he struggled? Hear say though like I said I didn’t watch.

I just know he made a bad pass in one U23 game which then resulted in goal (not all totally his fault). If this would happen in EPL, the fans would make a total scene, twice and his confidence would be pretty bad.

It's important he now in this season gets many games under his belt, so he has that certain level of performance as a base. Next year he can start playing for us.
