Saliba is the best of worlds, young and already world class. They also have three of his NT teammates in Mbappe, Tchouameni, and Camavinga.

Saliba's move to Real is probably a matter when rather than if, unfortunately. We haven't done ourselves any favors this season in terms of our ability to keep him for a few years more.

I get that, just trying to make myself feel better.

When a replacement will set you back 80-100M it really isn’t worth considering whatever they put on the table.

Tell Madrid to keep their money, put one of their forwards on the line then we’ll talk.

We ultimately should be sitting Saliba down now and asking him what he wants to do. Would he sign a new contract shortly and offer us security for the next 2 or 3 years, or does he really want to go to Madrid in the next 6-18 months.

If it's the latter, then this summer we still have some bargaining left. Like you say, tell Madrid to throw a Rodrygo into the mix or come up with £100M & then we will talk this window, & go and get Huijsen for £50M.

Any world that we lose Saliba isn't ideal, but something like that would be the best outcome. Knowing us we'll sell cheap, not get any talent in exchange and lose out on Huijsen to Liverpool or Chelsea.

It's usually official when Perez starts yapping about the player. We don't have a nation state backing our club to fend him off for a few years either.

I don't remember any official rejection but I'm sure they would have wanted Henry at the peak of his powers but he never gave them a second glance due to his love for The Arsenal.

Didn't hurt that we were class in those days!!

This is what happens when you attempt to build a weapon but neglect to sharpen the tip. For whatever reason, the club feel a striker is not important, and I don’t just mean this season. We have dropped points by not having a top striker, points mean prizes. Prizes mean keeping your players. Would Henry have stayed as long if we weren’t winning?

I think people are in for a shock if they expect 100 million pounds. If we get 75-80 we done well. It will most likely drag on as well

Done well doing what?

Is Saliba out of contract in the summer, or next?

That's why we should enquire about a Rodrygo in return, with 2 years to go, we still have some bargaining power. Test their will to sign Saliba against their will to keep Rodrygo.

Crystal Palace just rejected £70M for Marc Guehi with 18 months left on his deal. If something like £75m is the maximum they go to this summer then just say see you next summer.

Can't be shown to be pushed around by them.

75m and done well? If we get 75m, I will feel being robbed. The best central defender in the world and still very young. And Arsenal is not some club from Tier 2 leagues. If Harry Maguire was worth 80m, Saliba gets over 100m easily.

Problem as I see it - as was proven last month - is that currently we have is no decent hard ball negotiators to get the club the market value he is worth, find out who might be able to come the other way to improve the squad, let alone get a world class CB replacement. I bet Real are rubbing their hands with a big grin on their faces knowing that Ayto is likely to be in the room. Where the **** are our headlines tapping up big name players from other clubs for the summer? And while I'm at it, how many decent players out there have mentioned us as their dream move this summer. Sorry, we are Arsenal and we don't do it like everyone else!!

Maguire was not worth 80. The problem we have is we don’t have a lot to sell to get in real money. They gonna have to make a huge deal. The saving grace is Real don’t tend to spend big on defenders

That's not how it works though. All you have to do is look at Liverpool with Trent to see what can happen when Madrid come knocking.

Difficult situation because Saliba is so ****ing good but there's a real case for cashing in as early as possible to get more value and reinvest immediately. His value as an Arsenal player will peak this summer and fall off drastically afterwards.

I can see us going for Huijsen if Saliba leaves. He has 55 million release clause

Henry signed a pre-contract with Real (when at Monaco) using an unregistered agent and FIFA annulled the agreement with both Henry and Real being fined. That soured any possibility of him ever moving there.

We also fended of Real for Vieira every summer.

We had Arsène though. It’s not the same. They adored him (and still ended up leaving eventually).
