William Saliba: Rolls Royce

The issue is not that he is quality, the issue is that you can win the CL or title with a quality CB but you need world class attackers. Liverpool won the title because of Salah, we missed Saka for 4 months.

Not saying we should go back to the time with Mustafi or Sokratis, but a quality defender next to Gabriel is sufficient for us to compete.

Or let me put it in another way, would you rather have Saliba or Isak? Both world class players but the impact of Isak would be much higher than Saliba.

Why do we need to lose Saliba in this scenario?

Thought he was good. One mistake aside he held the defence together pretty well, easy to see his elite quality.

I honestly can’t believe some of the stuff I’m reading. It’s obvious where our problem lies and it’s not at the back.

We still have statistically the best defence in both the PL and CL this season despite how many injuries we’ve had there. Raya and Saliba have been the two ever present.

His recent dip has basically been 3 or 4 uncharacteristically bad mistakes but if you put those in context of how many minutes he plays, he deserves more than a bit of slack.

Concentration is a mental thing. You don't physically tire at CB really even after a long season. You don't cover enough ground to. CB's want to play every week.

He's got a bit sloppy because he hadn't got Gabriel in his ear, and is now the senior partner with Kiwior.

Right? One of the reasons we are able to play further up the pitch and be in the position to pose a threat is how comfortable our defenders are under pressure. Holding, Luiz, Chambers, Kolasinac etc live too recently in my memory.

Spot on. Look at the amount of times he completely shut down their attackers, who are all world class/elite.

The guy is comfortably top 2 in the world with VVD.

A few misplaced passes and a fortunate deflection doesn’t change that.

I hope Saliba stays for the next ten years but if he ever does we absolutely just put Timber at CB. White at RB and throw that 100m straight into the Isak fund.

Otherwise just give him 200k from Partey and keep it solid.

The best partnership we've had in years, arguably since Toure/Campbell. If there's one area of the pitch we don't need to worry about it's that. A few defeats and we need to lose one of them, deary me.

He's elite but crucially, he forms an incredible partnership with Gabriel. When he was injured, Gabriel got pellets because we missed out on the PL. Now Gabriel is out, it's been too much for him shoulder alone. I hope they both extend and Saliba gets a good rest in thd summer. In truth, the step up to play international football has taken its toll too.

i understand you look like have attack minded but without our defense last season then we will not compete title race and if we add great - elite attacker last season then we will win the league

but we will not win the league last season without defense saliba - gabriel even if we have elite attacker, you know why ? because when compete title race with monster guardiola mancity then we have close to be perfect in every aspect

One could say that we had scored 91 goals that year. Why would you need an attacker if you can manage 91 goals and season (that is 2 goals and game). Year before we scored 88 goals.

It is not the amount of goals, it is the game changing moments. We have only one player that can is capable of doing that, namely Saka. You need at least 2 or 3. Players who can change a 0-0 to 1-0 by individual quality.

Feel he is slightly overrated, tbh... don't even mean this as that much of a bad thing as he's still very good, but he isn't some perfect player either.

Feel he still needs to iron some things out before he's ready for a club like Madrid, if he ever is.

Feel he needs to sign at least one more contact here now.

He will sign imo. But I agree, he is a bit overrated. Two things he needs to improve in order to be one of the greats. Minimize the mistakes he does from build up and his heading. Heading in general and defending his box from crosses. For such a big ,dominant and fast guy , he really should have aerial doominance as well.
