William Saliba: Rolls Royce

...and then He woke up sweating !!!
Feel he is slightly overrated, tbh... don't even mean this as that much of a bad thing as he's still very good, but he isn't some perfect player either.

Feel he still needs to iron some things out before he's ready for a club like Madrid, if he ever is.

Feel he needs to sign at least one more contact here now.

Come on man, don’t let a few sloppy passes get in the way of everything else he’s done.

He’s top 2 in the world with VVD.

Feel something is off with him mentally to be honest, reminds me of (a better version of course) of Kos...feel a club/changing room as demanding as Madrid could really cripple him, especially after his form this season.

He's very talented as I said, but needs to sort himself out a bit and our fans need to be a bit more demanding (you can't be in contention for best in the world and have not won anything too)

"You are probably the best player I have ever played with, but you have been here 2 years and not won anything...so how good are you really?"

...never forget what Adams said to Bergkamp in summer 1997, you want to be great you should get trophies.

I agree with you but you lost me at Kos. I have ptsd from this period just thinking how many games Koscielny cost us. This is more to how Saliba is as a person. He is not the fastest at reading the game imo. Also he is so used to dominate and cover the ball with his body so he can be careless sometimes. This can be fixed. Heading the ball is more worrying. Not sure how easy this can be coached especially for a guy at the peak of his career. He should have mastered it already.

League is very weak
He’s young for a CB. There aren’t many 24 year old CB’s I can remember who were without an issue or two. Even Carragher said he watched Van Dijk at Celtic and wasn’t convinced, he was 24 then.

If he’s as good as we think, there is another level in there. An extension would be massive for us.

I meant he's like Kos mentally.

He switches off a bit too much, see some goals/chances we have given up with him either giving the ball away on not tracking his man in the box...and sometimes he lets the moment get to him, see the Cup semis v Newcastle when the pressure was REALLY on for us to win something and he was terrible in both legs.

Saliba was flawless in his first two seasons. The guy literally didn’t put a foot wrong.

He’s made a few mistakes this year, but his level has still been top draw.

He’s probably the highest level player we’ve got (hence the Madrid interest).

In his first season here he got injured and forced us to play Holding when we were trying for a title, that ain't flawless in my book.

If Kurt Angle can win Olympic gold with a broken freakin' neck then Saliba should easily have been able to play on with a broken back, imho 🤷‍♂️

:applause:He’s got absolutely everything in his locker. Even this year VVD’s made some errors. It’s the nature of the position. 99% of what Saliba does is class.

A wise man once said you pay for the education of young CB's, he'll cost you points.

People forget he just turned 24. If he stays here he could have the same impact on our club as Tony Adams.

So harsh on Kos imo. Saliba has the benefit of a midfield that actually covers and a defensive minded manager. Kos had to deal with a high line, attack minded midfielders, and fullbacks that were always in the final third. Considering our tactics, Kos and Mert did excellent. Saliba is very good, but has had several brain farts that were not even based on pressure, just mistakes. He has been WC with Gabriel beside him, but not quite as good with Kiwior (and not to fault of Kiwior either). And Kos played more the Gabriel aggressive CB type anyways.
