• To all AM members and guests.

For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

Please support both these initiatives and help ensure the long term future of our site.

That quote isn't verbatim but it's more paraphrased than completely made up. At the press conference before our CL match which took place immediately after his extension was signed and announced, he was asked about guys like Trent leaving to go to Madrid and that temptation and he pointed out that Trent won things at Liverpool and then left. He then said that he had done nothing at Arsenal yet except the little community shield and that it was never in his mind to leave the club before winning things here. He wants to win things here and that was his only thought.

I am being nitpicky here but I would like to see Saliba be a bit more risky in possession. I've noticed that teams are happy for our CBs to have the ball and pass it between each other - they are not interested in pressing. When this happens, Saliba should be carrying the ball further into the middle of the pitch and force the opposition to engage which will inevitably create an opening for either Rice or Eze. I think we're a bit too comfortable passing between the CBs at times.
I think it's coaching. He still does it every once in a while but he is the more "stay at home" of our 2 CBs. With Cala playing wherever he wants and Timber now playing almost the Hakimi role as well as Gabby operating almost as a wide back to cover Calafiori, I think Saliba is encouraged to be more conservative. He does still spray the occasional long pass (he had a few attempts to Gyok in the first half at Burnley) and he will carry the ball sometimes when we're searching for a goal but I think broadly Arteta wants him to be the most defensive member of the back line.

I like the fact that Mikel is probably experimenting more than he ever has this season, not everything is working but he's not shying away from continuing to try to innovate. Big improvement on recent years in that sense.
I totally agree and it's what we need to do and should have done in previous seasons. It gives the players confidence that they can make changes during a match too

I hope we see it more; a lot of teams aren't bothering to press us and are happy to sit in their block - if we can't bait a press by holding onto the ball we need have Saliba carry it into MF to create passing lanes to the likes of Eze.

When I arrived, an Arsenal share was worth £800; it subsequently rose continuously in value and by the time I left it stood at £17,000.
