Arteta has done many great things at Arsenal, but the idea that Saliba's early years in north London were all part of a carefully managed development plan doesn't stand up to scrutiny. He was cut from Arsenal's plans. When Saliba was at Marseille, he was convinced he'd never play for Arsenal under Arteta.

I still don't get how Arteta didn't see the potential. Many keep on saying he was always in the plans but more articles are suggesting this wasn't the case. He was probably not setting the world on fire with his attitude/morale in 2019 because he was young, lost his mother and having difficultly settling into another country. But his talent/potential must have shown in training to some extent, and especially with his performances in France on loan, I could even see he was a star ffs. I still don't get what the club were thinking, I just think they thought he had a poor attitude and wasn't going to fit the culture of the new regime.
