Arsenal keen on Willy Caballero - £7million rated Malaga goalkeeper
The north London club are looking for someone to challenge Wojciech Szczesny after losing two experienced back-ups this summer
Arsène Wenger is plotting a move for Malaga's highly-rated keeper Willy Caballero, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People.

Wenger has made the signing of a goalkeeper who will give Wojciech Szczesny a run for his money and a right-back to replace Bacary Sagna his top priorities.

And Argentinian stopper Caballero, widely regarded as one of the best keepers in La Liga over the past two seasons, is high on his wanted list.

Wenger has made an initial enquiry about the 32-year-old and is ready to step up his pursuit of the player.

Sunday People Sport understands Arsenal, who have a £100million-plus transfer kitty, will offer around £7million and a loan player on top to get the deal done.

Atletico Madrid are also keen as they search for a replacement for Thibault Courtois, who will return to his parent club Chelsea.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini also considered move for Caballero, with whom he worked at Malaga, when Joe Hart suffered a sticky patch early in the season. But the England No.1's return to form convinced him not to take his interest any further.

The Gunners are desperate to get competition for Szczesny after Lukasz Fabianski quit the club at the end of his contract to join Swansea and Emiliano Viviano returned to Palermo following his loan deal.

Arsenal also plan to sign England youth keeper Christian Walton - and groom him to be their No.1.

Under-19 star Walton, currently with Brighton, has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs but Arsenal are favourites to get him.

I would be surprised if Arsène was willing to pay that kind if money on a 32 year old keeper.

Very good goalkeeper, and at 32 he will give us at least 3 more good seasons, and for all we know maybe even 8.

He's a tremendous shot stopper, last season vs Dortmund he basically single-handedly kept Malaga in the tie, and did that many times over the season when Malaga also beat Real Madrid and other big teams.

I don't know how good he is at collecting crosses and dominating his box though since that doesn't get tested as much in Spain, but the guy is big and strong so i'd imagine wouldn't have to much trouble.

It's looks Ospina will be our Backup goal keeper next season according to RMC and we can get him for free cuz his contracts ends this month.

More like the greatest goalkeeper in the whole wide world (don't mind the hyperbole, Malaguista speaking here). Seriously, if there's one player who are completely untouchable for Málaga this season, it would be Caballero. He has been that good. Without him, we would have been relegated.

As much I love Arsenal, please keep your hand off our Willy.

Manchester City have agreed a £6million ‎deal for Malaga keeper Willy Caballero.

Argentinian Caballero is due to fly to Europe for talks with the champions, who are set to pay up to £10million - based on appearances and success.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini - who previously worked with the 32-year-old at Malaga - has beaten off competition ‎from Monaco and Barcelona to sign a back-up for Joe Hart.

Damn it, I would have loved him here but I felt he was way too good to want to come here and be second choice, but now it looks like he's willing to be #2 to Hart at City (If Hart gets back to what Hart does Willy might become the #1 after not to long).

Even in today's economy 10m is too much for a backup goalkeeper.

Some players are in it just for the money.

But 6m isnt imo for a keeper of Wily's quality. If he comes in a displaces Hart and he doesnt have potential tital costing ****ups like Hart did for Sterlings winner and it helps them City lift silverware well then that 4m is well worth it.

I think we'll see him starting for City before too long and it's likely that Willy knows that too. Surely Pellegrini would've explained to him he is fighting for the number 1 jersey and not just a back-up.

That, or he's in it for the money.

City love their competition and rotation and now they have that at GK as well.

Got a feeling Pellegrini isn't too keen on Hart, hence that run Pantillimon got last year. If they had a decent back up, Hart may not have come back in last year.
