No idea why hunter is down on Van Dijk that lad will move on to a mote glamorous league and look the part. You only have to look at Forster, Wanyama, Ki, Naismith as players who have moved from the goldfish bowl of Glasgow and done well for themselves in clubs fighting for European spots.

He's nowhere near Arsenal quality though. He can make the step up to the PL, but not to a top team.

Van Dijk would be a good prospect signing if your team wasn't currently a total joke in their defensive make up.

Not the guy when you need immediate quality.

Yes, yes, Johnny Cross has spoken.

Cross linking us with Reid is porn like material.

If you mean it's briefly exciting but ultimately leaves you empty inside then 100% agree.

Guy is completely clueless, but hey if you throw enough s**t, some of it sticks.

West Ham have signed a Canadian international, Doneil Henry.

Doesn't come across as an immediate replacement but with Tomkins, Collins, this new signing, and utility backups Kouyate and Song that may be enough for West Ham to feel they can let Reid go for a fee instead of for free at the end of the season.

Will not happen. Reid will want assurances of starting and we will not give him that. We have an established starting pair in Mert and Kos and are grooming a young player in Chambers. We are looking for a fourth choice utility man that can play a number of positions in a pinch. Perrin rumors have more merit.

He'll join Sp**s or Liverpool. Wenger has 2 starters and and Chambers for the future.

What I'm reading into the situation (us looking at Perrin) - Chambers is lined up to break the Kos and Per partnership.

Obviously as fans we want what other top clubs do - need a player in a certain position? Sign the best you can out there.

Wenger again, has long term, and player development in mind, a tight budget too maybe.

I'm not keen on him as Per's replacement. He seems like a safer gamble than Perrin would be and I'd certainly prefer him over Perrin, but he'd be a gamble nonetheless. Dok's comment about Kos and Reid's playing styles not being complementary is a bit of a red flag. So I don't think he's the Per replacement we're looking for. That said, I would not be against getting this guy on a free in the summer (or for a small fee in January) provided we ship Per out in the summer and replace him with a top quality CB to partner Kos.

Starting: Top CB - Kos
Sub: Chambers - Reid

Looks pretty good.

Question for Dok: how is Reid on the ball and what would you say his biggest weakness is?

Average on the ball, no worse than your current CBs. It's difficult to pinpoint a specific weakness as he's a very good all-round CB.

Keown a few weeks ago had Reid in his top 5 current best PL CBs, alongside Terry, Cahill, Kos and Kompany, I think.

Latest rumour now is that Reid has an agreement in place with a club for next summer.

BFS has highlighted that for PL prize money each position is worth £1.8m (from his recollection, number may be a little off).

BFS and West Ham appear to be talking about Reid quite a lot which suggests they are putting him in the shop window but taking into account prize money differences of £1.8m per PL position a fee of 4m as in some rumours looks unrealistic, would be something closer to 7-8m. A buying club then has to weigh up if that is worth it as opposed to getting the player for free at the end of the season but for me the economics still makes sense considering the cost of not qualifying for the CL which is quite possible if Kos continues to struggle to gain full health and we continue with the lack of depth at the back we've had so far this season.

West Ham have already brought in a Canadian international (Doneil Henry). There are also some rumours about them tracking Nicolas N'Kolou in addition (suggested transfer fee approx. 6m).

This is where we should be more ruthless as a club - 8mil is chump change for a starting CB with PL experience.

Get him in, use him for the remainder of this season and the next and then sale him if he doesn't cut the mustard.

Not every decision needs to have the long long term considered!!!

Is it true that only foreign clubs can sign him on a pre-contract, as BFS is claiming?
"You hear rumours. But can we prove it?" said Allardyce.

Players are allowed to sign pre-contract deals with other clubs if they have six months or less left on their current deals - but as Allardyce was quick to stress "only foreign clubs".

He also said the player had rejected "millions" of offers from the Hammers, suggesting his mind was already made up to move after 30 June - despite only being allowed to speak to other clubs since 31 December.

"We have had the regulations for a long, long time," the Hammers boss added.

"If you can prove that clubs have broken the rules, then they are in serious trouble aren't they? But you can't prove it these days. You hear rumours, this, that and the other.

"It might have nothing to do with the two clubs directly, it could be between two agents, so how can you relate that to the football clubs? You can't, so it can all get done that way."

Allardyce added: "If he is not going to sign a contract here, I would find it highly unlikely if it is not already verbally done.

"You have to accept the way it is and contrary to whether it breaks the rules or it doesn't, it happens. It is just one of the ways the football world works."

New Zealand international Reid joined West Ham from Danish side FC Midtjylland in August 2010 and has developed into one of the club's key players.

Allardyce said no official approaches had been made for Reid so far in the January transfer window and that he had no need to "cash in" on the player this month.

He continued: "Why cut your nose off to spite your face? It doesn't look like he is playing with his mind somewhere else to me."

However, Allardyce added: "There is no future for Winston Reid at West Ham at the moment as his contract finishes on 30 June. He hasn't said he is or isn't going to sign.

"You would err that he isn't, by the feel and look of it, at this moment in time."

Transfer rules were changed following the landmark Bosman ruling by the European Court of Justice in 1995, which freed players to move to other clubs when their contracts had expired.

Someone representing Liverpool, Sp**s, Everton, Utd, Arsenal, City etc would have been in touch with someone representing Reid, with an offer. Reid then gives it the OK and turns down any West Ham offer or any potential agreement with a European club.

Every big team in the Premier League will be after a CB in the summer, work it out.

Yeah I've basically accepted that Reid is leaving. Too many big fish looking for a new quality CB. He'd be mental to turn down Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd, maybe even City and Chelsea. Life of a mid-table club.
