In terms of qualifying they truly hit a wall at one point going six matches without a win but still finished third overall.
This coming on the heels of an amazing Copa America where they finished top of a group with Brazil and marching through the knockouts before losing narrowly to Argentina in the final.
As for this World Cup they comfortably looked the class of their group and if not for some poor finishing would have won heavily in all three games.
Who’s the Boss?:
Jose Pekerman led Colombia to two successful World Cups in 2014 & 2018 as well as an Argentine side in 2006 which should have gone on to win.
His assistant for all three tournaments was Nestor Lorenzo who now takes Colombia on his own World Cup journey as manager.

Motherf*cking Starboy:
Gustavo Puerta has been in excellent in midfield for the first three games. In particular, against Portugal he handled a nightmare trio of Vitinha - Bruno - Neves with absolute ease.
He was pinging the ball around with great accuracy and barely put a foot wrong defensively.
He’s spent the last year in the Spanish second division helping Racing Santander to promotion after a rough time at Leverkusen which included a loan to Hull. Pretty clear he’ll be moving to a much higher level after the tournament.

The Main Man:
You feel their tournament progress is directly linked to Luis Diaz.
He was unstoppable against Uzbekistan as Los Cafeteros scored three but he was progressively worse against DR Congo and Portugal as they failed to wrap up games they should’ve won comfortably.
His club form has been red hot this year so you’d back the Bayern man to come good in the knockout rounds.

Why is Bro here?:
Not one to hate on a former Gunner but David Ospina still making World Cup squads aged 37 is truly wild even if he is second choice.
After Napoli he spent some time as Ronaldo’s teammate at Al Nassr before joining Atletico Nacional in his homeland.

World Cup GOAT:
The golden boot winner from 2014, James Rodriguez despite a journeyman club career in recent years has been on fire once again this tournament.
In 2014 though he was truly mesmeric and wasn’t bad at 2018 either. What a player.

Best Tournament Finish:
Quarter Finals (2014)
Rextradamus Prediction:
They need to find their finishing boots particularly against a Ghanaian team which is extremely well organised and tough to break down.
I think they’ll win that and also put away the Algerians in the last 16 to set up a spicy game with Argentina.
This is a HUGE rivalry match as they’ve been foes in the semis and final of the last two Copa Americas with Argentina players dancing mockingly after victory.
I know they’ll be burning for revenge but I think it’ll unfortunately be a quarter final exit at the hands of their rivals.
Which Simpsons character would they be?:
Musical rhythms, seductive and great entertainment the question is how long will they hang around? Lurleen Lumpkin
