No CL is quite a big stain on the club let’s be honest here. We’d still comfortably be the third biggest domestic club with no invincible season.

When people call us one of the biggest clubs in Europe (we are by most metrics) it sometimes feel a bit dubious because of our lack of European success (in general).

Outside of the Arsenal fanbase you don't here that much talk of the Arsenal going the season unbeaten really.

It's important to us but I think we'd probably get more respect in the wider football community with a CL winners medal tbh.

I wouldn't change it though.

If we won a CL back then Thierry would have won a balon dor as well I’m pretty sure. We as a fanbase would have cherished that as well as the CL.

That gimp Wayne Bridge killed what I still think was our best chance.

That was a pretty mid Chelsea side that got slapped up by Deschamps in the semi final. Still think that was our year with Milan getting bounced in the quarters.

Think it was Deportivo, Monaco and Porto left.

That’s one of the biggest gripes people have against us. They sing about us never having won a CL. The CL is the most important competition in Europe. You get a star in your crest for winning CLs, not the PL.

Are you taking an L in the league that season, if it meant we went on to win the CL?

For me it’s definitely yes.

It’s the biggest club trophy in the world. It’s a very hard pill to swallow that Henry, Vieira and Wenger didn’t win it.

Hmmm maybe. That Chelsea loss was a personal heartbreaker and a League/CL double is a giant achievement.

Only three times English clubs have ever done it since the CL was established.

This really does feel like "Would you let the person you love most in the world die, to save the world from extinction?" you see in some cheesy action film...not surprised it was the AM supervillain @A_G asking it either, the sick and sadistic madman that he is ffs!

I think the answer is a heartfelt yes, but with a caveat.

One of our squads from 98/99-04/05 are the ones that get the Champions League win, love everything about the Invincible achievement but would just about give it up for Wenger/Bergkamp/Vieira to get Champions League winners medals.

Anyone who gives up the Unbeaten title to guarantee some gormless moron like Declan Rice the European Cup just isn't an Arsenal fan or even someone who should be allowed internet access without supervision imo.

But since it is a hypothetical at the end of the day, in reality I am still super proud that we are Invincible to be fair... almost every player in that 2004 squad is like a God to me and every Arsenal fan.

It does pain me that we haven't won the Champions League, but I am sure it pains other big clubs like Atletico/Rangers/Valencia/Napoli/etc...that they don't have it either, it's not just all about us at the end of the day.

We have actual history that is incredibly impressive and makes me love the club, that's what counts!

Actually a 2nd caveat to this will also be for R9 to have won it at some point too.

Though fact the real Ronaldo doesn't have this trophy and Kai Havertz does, makes kinda think that maybe the Champions League is not the be all and end all we think it is 😅

We can still get CL, even this season - with Merino upfront. It’s genuinely not that deep.

We most likely never go unbeaten again, it’s strange to put CL above. There is a lot of complaints about how we don’t get our plaudits, swapping unbeaten for CL wouldn’t change that.

So much harder to do as well, can lose a game in every round and still win the Champions League.

With the league their will always be some random game where a title contender will lose. Chelsea probably closest to it that I can think of off the top of my head in 2004 and Keegan's City beat them out of nowhere.

If United, Chelsea, Pool, etc had done it you can guarantee we'd still be hearing about it now.

It’s only because they haven’t done it. We win CL you suddenly think they all rate us? Doesn’t make sense.

Could you imagine the media if any version of Liverpool or prime Utd went unbeaten?

I remember when Carra and Neville during the pandemic were doing some stupid exercise on ranking the greatest teams of all time.

Got immediately triggered as they said unbeaten seasons aren’t worth much and of course they somehow ended up with Man Utd and Liverpool having 4 of the top 5 teams while we were down in 6th.

These lot never rating us. Clearly they would have had us in 8th as well if they could include contemporary Liverpool and City.
