Would've Kewell been a good match for Arsenal?

It's easy to say, "No" Kewell's not a fit at Arsenal, now that Reyes is here.

But even without Reyes, Kewell doesn't seem the sort that develops bonds with his teammates. His latest 442 interview sheds some light on this.

I don't think Harry has the passion or emotion to become a Gunner.

I for one would have loved it if Kewell had come to highbury his lack of form is down to Hoofier & the car thieves had he come to highbury he would of been great just look at how average a lot of other quality players are in that side Owen, Gerrard etc

He is definatly a great player in a sh*t team ( currently)

As happy as i am that Arsenal got Reyes instead of Kewell, one cant help but imagine how Kewell, a similar player to Reyes, would have done in Red and White. i think he would have been great as an Arsenal player but he made a bad choice in moving to a team that destroy every talent they touch. Liverpoop have claimed their latest victim in their rampage of talent elimination. it is harry kewell but there will be no tears from highbury eyes. we have the king of Europe and its new crown prince.

J's totally right about Kewell - he can be a totally devastating player.

But he shows no inclination to do that on a week to week basis.

Wenger would have thought of him before Reyes because he could see the evidence in front of his face of just how good Kewell was. But Kewell chose Liverpool, for reasons i'm sure he will ultimately regret.

The simple fact is that only in the Liverpool-Everton match earlier this season has he put in the kind of performance he put in for Leeds about 10-15 times a season. That's not good enough for someone of his ability.

And as a result we bought Reyes who can go on to be the player Kewell should be and a hell of a lot more.

His loss, our gain.

Very true. Kewell has had a reputation as a bit of a sullen loner since he first came over to England as a 16 year old. I think Michael Bridges is his only friend at Leeds. During the trasnfer saga in the summer, his agent made a telling remark along the lines of "We don't have many friends - it's just Harry, his wife and kids, and myself. The rest of the world can go hang". He would not be suited to the collective mentality and team spirit that Arsenal specialise in. Unlike Reyes, who seems to be loved by the other players already.

I would have liked to have seen Kewell join us as I reckon he is quality, and agree with the comments that his form this season would likely have been better with us.

The ironic thing about his joining Liverpoop is that he claimed it was because of Gerard Houllier, and he isn't going to be there come the summer!

No thanks.
I wanted him to sign for us but seeing his attitude at Liverpool ( the club he loves and supported since childhood ) i am glad we did not sign him

As to whether he would fit in, strictly on footballing ability yes.. but you wouldnt ever know what kind of performance he would be willing to give you... so the answer is no to Kewell at Highbury.

Kewell? No need to even think about with the team we have right now.

In any case, Duff seems to be the player, I would be more excited about...

Personally I don't like him. He seems extremely arrogant which would be undestandable if he had won any trophies but he seems to flatter to deceive. He also screwed Leeds big time. they brought him over from Australia, developed him as a player, put him on the world stage when they were playing in the CL and as soon as things started to turn sour for Leeds instead of fighting for the club he made it blatantly clear he wanted to leave. He left for peanuts in the end...... He would never gel in our side and I'm glad we got Reyes instead

Yeh but didn't kewell go for 3 Million in the end a bargain against
Duff 17 million
Reye's 17 Million

And before you all start reye's this & reye's That Rar Rar Rar

I Love Jose but hope he is worth the extra 14 million paid (fingers crossed) when money is still so tight

Kewell cost them £5mill, the reason was he was out of contract the next year and had refused to sign another.

Duff is easily better as he much more consistant. We still haven't seen the best from Reyes yet, I think he has the ability to be better than both. Remember he is 3/4 years younger than Kewell and Duff.

I guess we will never know, but it's certain Arsène would have gotten more out of him than Mr Houllier and in Arsenal he would have really had to fight for his place and produce constantly. One thing of note is, that he seams to be plagued by these nagging injuries which might not have made him worth his high salaries.
I do belive Reyes is more of a team player and will prove to be a greater footballer than Kewell ever could have been.

Jazz i totally Agree Duff is the better player Given the choice of :

Duff
Reye's
Kewell

I think most people Hand on heart would have wanted Duff I'd Barely even Heard of Reye's but when u look at the money side of it Kewell was definatly the Best Bargain if only he'd Supported The gooners maybe we could of had Reye's & Kewell now that would of been Nice

Thank God we did not sign Kewell.

The fact that hes a money grabbing *****, shows he would have left us for Real if the opportunity ever came.
The guy even screwed over the club that made him.

Hes very good, but not good enough to cry over.

I think Duff is quality, hes a little like Overmars. However, once again not good enough to cry over, we got Pires who is second only to Henry in Premiership.

kewell had the chance to go to man u but turned it down , because he wanted an easier life than fergies ear bashing.

not the kind of commitment arsenal want from a player IMO.

I dont reckon Duff is better than Harry K. Maybe i havent seen enough of Duff to notice, but i did see both of them play against eachother in the Ireland vs Australia friendly, and Kewell played very well, and Duff barely touched the ball. I think Kewell is one of the Premier left midfielders in the World, and i think is a damn shame he didnt come to Arsenal, because Wenger would've made him, simply put, superb!

I just think he wasnt sure of his own abilities...he must have feared that he wouldnt be able to keep a regular place at the ARSENAL....but he also chickened out of a move to ManU and Barca....its says a lot about his character....so I'm glad he didnt come our way....he doesnt seem to have the bottle to play consistently and stake a claim to real superstardom with the big boys....thats y he went to Liverpoop.
