Again, if this club goes another season with Xhaka as starter it won't help having GJ. He is going to be slowly dragged down by our lack of creativity with Xhaka there. It's unbelievable that a pro manager is incapable of realising how poor is Xhaka for the supposed system you are trying to set. Spending money on defenders for fun but no spending in you freaking midfield.

Xhaka’s leadership blinds the manager. I don’t see Arteta changing at all because he is emotionally invested in Xhaka.

Don’t think we’re going to buy this guy or any CM and we’ll go for a wide forward instead
Yeah this. I think we'll have another season of Xhaka.

Tbh if we not using Marquinos or Nelson on RW, we do need another option there to help ease burden on Saka.

Next summer will see us go for CM & RB cover. Cedric & White will play when Tomi doesn't this season.

Will be interesting to what happens with Marquinos. No links to any RW for us at the moment. Maybe we waiting to make a move late in the window?

As i said this is late transfer window move we'll try get him for 20m or bit more. We not in rush because with Zinchenko ability to play in midfield we have enough players to start the season. Things might change if we got injures or few teams get into race.

Both player and Arsenal want it to happen. For me i would just get it done now but it's classic move clubs do with players who got 1 year left. Clubs done that to us already and doing it with players like Torreira AMN and bellerin who got 1 year left

Why do you always have to get personal? You seem to get triggered that my ball knowledge is superior to yours. I’m not always negative. Last summer I pushed for and was delighted when we got Ødegaard, this season for Jesus, I’m happy with Zinchenko.

You don’t have to be happy with everything. If Vieira was 10m, great, but 30m for me, from what I’ve seen of him, is not the best way to take this club forward right now.

Also, lol at comparing him to Cazorla. Cazorla, like Bernardo, like Nasri are elite level dribblers that’s why they could play on the wing.
IF you think that is personal, you must have a very long ignore list on this forum! And for the record I'm delighted to encounter superior knowledge - I'll let you know if you ever stumble into that category ;)

I've not sufficient involvement in this place to reflect on historical postings I've not read, but I have noticed that in almost every thread in the last 2 months (yes, bar Zinchenko), you have not been a happy bunny, and dismissive of other people's optimism. Obviously I don't feel you are one of the nutters or irrationally angry types on here or I wouldn't be seeing your posts!

And of course, one doesn't have to be happy with everything. There is still much to do. I have concerns about our Leno replacement. I think Cedric is a defensive disaster zone. We're all worried about the elephant in the room, and the drop off in quality in that role as a rotation option as things stand. But the goalkeeper aside (and maybe Marquinhos?) the signings improve us, and we probably haven't finished our business yet.

As for Vieira, I'm reserving judgement of course, but several things give me cause for optimism.
1) He's played 3 different roles for Porto & Portugal u21s, all of which we need cover for here.
2) He has a weight of pass on through balls we haven't had since Santi got injured.
3) While not a huge track record, last season he had god like numbers for Porto and the u21s if you look at productivity vs minutes
4) It means, even while he settles in, we aren't totally reliant on Ødegaard for middle to final third ball progression (we all saw Ødegaard post international breaks, and how that de-railed the team for a couple of games).
5) While not a speedster or powerful, he already has an athletic profile re sprints, repeatability etc that should be a good fit re EPL. He's also quicker than most of our midfield options.
6) His skillset lends itself to improved positional rotation in the middle to final third. Unlike Ødegaard and any other number 8 option discussed bar Pacqueta, he's as comfortable going outside the wide player as inside, allowing him to give us more immediately applicable tactical options to problem solve on the fly, and should help our inverted wingers.
7) He's a set-piece specialist with excellent finishing ability, which is something we lack.

Of course he's a risk at that price, given relative inexperience and lack of exposure to a top 4 league. But he's also as a good a prospect in the zones he operates in as I've seen within Arsenal's purchasing wheelhouse in some time, and one that directly relates to areas we have struggled with over the last 3 years, even with the great addition of Ødegaard.

No he's not at Cazorla's dribbling or technical level (not many are, anywhere), but unlike Cazorla he can leave a man once he's beaten them, and the point being made that I was responding to was regarding athleticism, suggesting that he can't play wide because he's not quick enough. His delivery from wide areas is excellent, and he has intelligent movement to find space. A little reminiscent of Özil at Bremen when he goes into those areas.

I have no idea whether he'll be a success at the club or not, but looking at our areas of deficiency outside the first 11, and the skillset he has and the areas he operates effectively in, he's an extremely exciting gamble who we acted quickly to get ahead of Liverpool.

Our biggest priority? No. But Zinchenko & Jesus help hugely in that regard, and now we need to see what the club do re central midfield. We now have lots of optionality, but I think we all agree we need another body in there. Who and what profile that is, will tell us a lot about Arteta's ideas for the make-up in there.

Of course, there IS still the elephant in the room, but I suspect that until the club knows more, it can't know how to react. You target a very different signing to be the understudy at 6 behind a top performer than you do if you need a straight replacement for that key man.

We must have watched different clips because I don’t see him as a player who can leave a man once he’s worked some room. More often than not he seems to turn back and pass.

His weight of pass isn’t as consistent as it’s being made out to be. He’s more Bruno than Özil. A player who will try balls that aren’t on, try too many long balls into the box, he’ll give the ball away a lot.

So we have James Benge the BTEC Seth Rogen and Ben Jacobs the BTEC Steve Merchant.

These two journalists are closer to comedians than correspondents as well, so I guess they're more alike than you'd think.
Then you have the athletics, James Mcnicholas who has performed as a stand up comedian.

Depends on how the play develops. He's not going to extend a gap over 10-15 yards vs a pacey fullback, but he's not Xhaka either. His first instinct is to pass rather than drive on, but it seems to be situational. His delivery from wide areas is good on the whole, so he's more looking for space to do that.

And sure, his weight of pass isn't super consistent, but it doesn't have to be to make him better at that than most of our squad, and he does have a range of pass and the vision to try imaginative things. He is of course a work in progress and a risk, otherwise he'd have cost double the fee he did.

He is more Bruno - re Özil, he's only really comparable to Özil pre Arsenal (not as quick, but plays similar types of passes and in the same zones). but he does play different passes to Özil and is of more pre-occupied with the effective than the perfect or beautiful. I imagine Arteta will be onto him sharpish about turning over possession, but I'd rather a player who is adventurous with a higher failure rate. We have plenty of metronomes already. He also, surely, can't be as much of a dirty, cheating rat faced snide as Bruno, just by laws of probability!

Lack of offers

“Other clubs would have to want the players,” Rodgers admitted.

And there is the problem for Leicester so far in this window — a lack of genuine offers and interest in many of the players they would prefer to move on.

There have been enquiries, most notably for Boubakary Soumare and Hamza Choudhury, but they appear to be loan offers only, from Monaco and West Bromwich Albion respectively. The post-COVID-19 market is still a difficult one for many clubs who would be interested in signing Leicester’s surplus.

Leicester have also had unwelcome interest in Timothy Castagne from Atletico Madrid, but are expected to resist all approaches.

Arsenal’s admiration for Youri Tielemans has not materialised into an offer and Rodgers has said he will hold talks with the Belgium international this week to discuss his situation, with the odds increasing that Tielemans will remain for the final year of his contract.

(The Athletic - Why Leicester are the only Premier League club not to have signed a player yet -
By Rob Tanner and Matt Slater)

Rodgers openly disappointed about the lack of transfer activity for Leicester and admitted they will have to sell before they buy.

The Leicester correspondents reporting that it is increasingly likely that Tielemens stays for his final year.
