Arsenal interim boss Freddie Ljungberg has admitted that he ‘feels sorry’ for Eddie Nketiah  who is struggling for regular football at Leeds United this season.

Nketiah has been infrequently utilised by United manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Despite netting five times in 13 matches, unbelievably Nketiah is still yet to start in the Championship this term.

And Ljungberg has revealed he does have sympathy for the England u-21 sharpshooter.

“I need to be careful but I think Eddie is a great player,” he said after taming a face-filling grin.

Nketiah also has 8 in 8 for England u-21

“If he goes on loan we want him to play football and get minutes otherwise they (players out on loan) can maybe be here. We want them to be on loan to get minutes.

“I feel a bit sorry for him because he is a great player and the future of this club. When he has had his chance he scores goals and that’s what he is about.”

Earlier this week, Leeds were drawn against Arsenal ahead of the FA Cup 3rd round tie next month.

The Yorkshire side have seven games before travelling to the Emirates on January 4. If Nketiah’s lack of game time continues, the striker may even be an Arsenal player by the time the cup tie rolls around.
