Mesut Ozil must help Arsenal win trophies and return to Champions League football.

That’s the thoughts of Sky Sports’ pundit Gary Neville following Ozil’s new contract which has seen him more than double his wages at the club.

Ozil signed a deal worth £350,000-a-week to remain in north London and is now very much the main man at the club.

The Germany international has enjoyed an impressive season so far, but Neville wants to see more from the playmaker.

As reported by the Metro, the former Manchester United defender said: ‘Losing Alexis Sanchez [to Manchester United] was a blow, so to get Ozil sorted is positive for them.

‘But he now needs to perform at the level he has been performing in recent months for the next few years, to get Arsenal the trophies they need and to get them back up into that top four.’

Since arriving for £42.5m in 2013, Ozil has helped Arsenal lift three FA Cups. He also tops the Premier League’s assisting chants (49).

The German will need to be at his best if he’s to assist Arsenal in returning to Champions League football next season.
