Arsene Wenger has called for Mesut Ozil and Germany to reconcile.

Ozil announced retirement from international football this past summer after allegedly receiving discrimination for his Turkish heritage.

Germany haven’t scored a goal since Ozil retired earlier this summer.

The playmaker who was signed by Wenger in 2013 for a record £42.5m is likely aware of Germany’s miserable form from the World Cup continuing without him. And Wenger says the nation must patch up their differences with the player.

‘I believe that Germany needs Ozil,’ Wenger told Bild. ‘I hope that Low can convince him that he will come back. Ozil is a super football player and was not the worst in the World Cup.

‘I did not like that he left the team. A little bit of motivation disappears when you know that you do not have to be ready for the World Cup and European Championship.

‘I love it when the player is as good as possible. If he does not play on an international level, a bit is lost.’

Ozil turned 30 earlier this week. So far, five years in England has seen the German help Arsenal win three FA Cups.
