Arsenal and England legend David Seaman has been speaking on the Seaman Says podcast about all things Arsenal recently.
As you would expect from a former goalkeeper, and also a major part of George Graham’s success at Arsenal, he was full of praise for the way we played against Manchester City at the weekend and waxed lyrical about our defensive efforts.
Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, sponsored by Betway he said “As an ex-Arsenal player, I was gutted that City got the point at the end, they got the equalizer. But I was watching it, and I was just thinking what a defensive display this is.
They got City rattled. I’ve not seen it for a long time, City players moaning afterwards about certain things going on in the game, and they’re masters at it with time wasting. Everybody does it, but don’t go out there moaning about it, especially after a game like that. It has the needle of our old Arsenal against United games. And I think that what we saw on Sunday will carry on.
I said I’ll take a point last week, all day long, and I’ve been saying that all week – I’ll take a point.
We know how good City are and they’re on form, they’ve won every game, so you’re always like, anxious when you’re playing City. But we’ve got a bit about us now. People talked about us having a soft underbelly, that’s gone. We’ve got a steeliness about us now and a belief as well.”
And he has a point, well – so did we – a draw at the Etihad against the unbeaten Manchester City, was a very decent result.
He has also talked about the yellow card Lewis-Skelly picked up, wondering how he faced his classmates with a yellow card to his name before even making his debut.
Seaman explained “He got booked before making his Premier League debut! It’s so funny because I go into Arsenal once a week and I’m sometimes with the under 18s or under 23s and I’ve been going about three years now, and he was coming in as a schoolboy, right? He trained with the under 18s and then he put his school uniform back on to go back to school. So then to see where he is now, wow. It’s just so incredible. And he’s like a really quiet lad, so I don’t know how he got a booking!”
Going to be one of those stories he will be able to tell at the end of his career at least!
Now our attention moves onto the weekend clash v Leicester City. I’m sure Betway soccer odds will clearly show we are favourites, here’s hoping we prove them right on the pitch.
