Arsenal fans were excited by the performance of Ainsley Maitland-Niles against Doncaster in the League Cup.
The Gunners edged passed Darren Ferguson’s side in a 1-0 win to reach the 4th round of the Carabao Cup.
Maitland-Niles was given just his second start of the season and was hugely impressive despite playing in an unchartered left-wing-back spot.
Many Arsenal fans had turned their attention to the 20 year-old’s under-23 teammate Reiss Nelson. The forward has taken much of the limelight when it comes to Arsenal’s future, but Maitland-Niles’ confidence on the ball and positional sense was just as, if not more impressive than Nelson’s.
The right-midfielder is expected to be handed further opportunities with the Gunners now through to the 4th round. A home tie with Norwich City awaits, while Europa League fixtures also represent opportunity for first-team football.
