Arsenal continued the winning pre-season run today as they defeated the Austrian champions on their own turf.
Goals from Dennis Bergkamp and yet another from Robin Van Persie secured the win in a rather experimental Gunners lineup, securing the win after Grazer had equalised the game at 1-1.
Dennis opened the scoring in the early stages when he took advantage of Jose Reyes’ low delivery to crack home for a 1-0 lead. However, on 24 minutes AK hit back and levelled through a placed Alen Skoro goal past Stuart Taylor between the sticks.
The scoreline remained level until 57 minutes into the tie at the Judenburg Stadium, when Franny Jeffers’ teasing dispatch was met with a thumping contact on the volley from the red hot Van Persie to seal the victory.
The Arsenal starting XI was as follows:
Taylor
Fahti
Toure
Senderos
Clichy
Pennant
Gilberto
Fabregas
Reyes
Bergkamp
Van Persie
Substitutions at half time included Manuel Almunia, Justin Hoyte, Lauren, Seba Svard, Marco Ne, Ali and Francis Jeffers. Young Italian Arturo Lupoli, fresh from his poaching from right under the noses of his enraged club, entered affairs for a 20 minute cameo in place of Rob Van P.
