Pep Guardiola has been revealed as the latest star player to escape Arsene Wenger’s grasp at Arsenal.

Arsenal have a long list of acclaimed footballers who ‘nearly’ joined under Wenger’s reign.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are just a few international superstars who were supposedly in talks with the north Londoners.

And now the boss has added Pep Guardiola to the list he almost and claims the Manchester City boss once turned up at his house ‘because he wanted to play for Arsenal’.

Wenger revealed the shocking news in an interview with BeIN Sport, quoted by AS: “I talked to him a few times, and once he came to my house when he was a player, because he wanted to play for Arsenal.”

The Frenchman did not take up Guardiola’s offer, and the Spaniard went on to play for Brescia, Roma, Al-Ahli and Dorados after he left Barcelona in 2001.

Following his retirement in 2006, Guardiola has since become a hugely successful manager. His trophy haul includes the Champions League twice as Barcelona head coach, three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and now the Spaniard is set to lift the Premier League with City in May.
