Arsenal have listed Rafa Benitez as a candidate for the vacant manager’s position.

The Newcastle manager led the North East side to a 10th place finish in the Premier League this season, but his future is uncertain due to discordance with the club’s hierarchy.

He is alongside a host of names linked with the Emirates role in recent weeks, most notably former captain Mikel Arteta.

But Balague claims Gazidis is in favour of appointing Benitez this summer.

“Ivan Gazidis likes Rafa Benitez and the possibility of someone to bring stability to the club right away,” he said on his official Youtube channel.

Guillem Balague says Arsenal are interested in Rafa Benitez

“I think Rafa will love the idea of managing Arsenal and will actually get the best out of that squad.

“He’s doing a great job at Newcastle but, of course, we all know the limitations of it.

“Not in terms of the passion of the fans or the size of the club.

“The budget situation is something that worries him.”

“I feel Gazidis will go for it,” he added.

Should Benitez be appointed manager, the tactically astute Spaniard will likely look to bolster the Gunners defence this summer.
