According to reports from Tutto Mercato Web, Arsene Wenger has opened negotiations with Roma’s 22 year-old rising star Leandro Paredes.

Arsenal are keen to get the deal done as quickly as possible. Reports are they will need to fend off Liverpool and Premier League champions Leicester City as both clubs also have their eyes on the playmaker.

Despite this, if the Gunners can agree a deal in principle then they would be open to finalising the move in the summer.

The tricky Argentine, not yet capped by his country, has made ten Serie A appearances so far this season and has a contract which runs until 2019. This could prove a stumbling block for Wenger

Paredes spent last season on loan at Serie A side Empoli, netting twice and picking up an assist along the way.

So what do we think Arsenal fans? Do we need another playmaker or should Wenger be more concerned with other areas of the team? Let us know in the comments below…
