Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil is “ready to commit” his future to the club.

Ozil has just five months to run on his current contract and will leave for free should he fail to sign a new deal.

The German has already watched former teammate Alexis Sanchez seal a big money move to Manchester United and may also be eyeing other options.

Despite seemingly nearing the end of his spell at Arsenal, the playmaker has performed superbly throughout much of this season.

Arsenal are desperate to see their No 11 sign on the dotted line – not least Arsene Wenger who says he behaves like someone ready to sign.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, the Gunners boss said: “Not close enough to be optimistic but not far enough to be pessimistic.

“The vibe I get from his commitment, focus and desire, he behaves like someone who is ready to commit. After that, contract negotiations are what they are.

“We aren’t close enough to tell you yes, he will stay.”

Like Ozil, Arsenal are also on the verge of losing Jack Wilshere. The Englishman has reportedly been offered a £20,000-a-week pay cut to stay following a string of injuries.
