Arsenal are set to battle it out with Manchester City to sign Jonny Evans in January.

The West Brom defender was linked with both City and the Gunners this summer, though Albion refused to part with their captain.

According to the Telegraph, Albion’s new boss Alan Pardew could be urged to cash in on Evans in order to raise funds to sign his own targets.

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola is keen to add a new centre-half and failed in a bid to sign Evans in the summer as Albion stuck rigidly to a £30m+ price tag.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is short of experience at the back should Arsenal suffer injuries to their customary back three.

The Gunners were rumoured to have offered £25m for the Northern Ireland international this summer, to which was turn downed by the West-Midlands outfit. Arsenal will likely have to improve their previous offer if they want to sign him in January.
