Arsene Wenger today confirmed that it is entirely possible that two of Arsenal’s brightest stars could possibly miss Saturday’s semi-final at Villa Park.

After reportedly engaging in frenetic conversation with the management of the French national side, Wenger commented that “It is possible the players who go away on international duty won’t play”.

Furthermore according to Soccernet, Wenger confirmed that both Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira will not be called up as they are nursing minor injuries.

“We have a week where we can work on the recovery of our players, which is really welcome.

“That is why I will be able to rest some players if I feel they have played too much for their national sides.

“I am hoping none of them has to go through more than 45 minutes but we will check them when they get back.”

Arsene’s blatant disregard for Manchester United has surely enraged Sir Alex and his men. Previously, Wenger has adopted a policy of resting key players in FA cup fixtures, last season at Old Trafford a prime example. In this case however, it is entirely possible that Wenger has one eye firmly placed on the midweek battle with Chelsea and has put the integrity of the squad before the titanic clash on Saturday.

It remains to be seen as to the condition of Ashley Cole, who picked up a knock after last Wednesday’s champions league fixture.
