Arsenal legend Ian Wright has slammed Henrikh Mkhitaryan for an ‘absolute nightmare’ of a performance during the Gunners’ 1-0 win over Watford.

Unai Emery’s side squandered numerous chances to put the game to bed against the 10 men following Troy Deeney’s red card.

Several of these spurned opportunities fell to Mkhitaryan, but the Armenian experienced an off night at Vicarage road.

After the game, Wright has hit out at a forward who has looked a shadow of the jet-heeled talent who won the Bundesliga’s Player of the Year award in 2016.

“He’s come in and we know he’s a quality operator but it’s just not happened,” Wright said.

“Between these two [Mkhitaryan and Sanchez], they’ve both had an absolute nightmare. Honestly they’ve had an absolute nightmare.

“Even if that’s the case, then you’d have to say with the assists, it’s not enough.”

Mkhitaryan made the switch to North London in January 2018 as part of the swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United.

The 30 year-old has six goals and four assists so far from his 15 league games this season.
