Freddie Ljungberg has conceded that surgery is the only solution to the hand injury he picked up in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
However, he will not be on the sidelines for long and is expected to return for Friday’s league clash with Leeds at Highbury.
“I went to the doctor immediately after Friday’s match against Liverpool,” Ljungberg told Expressen.
“The injury has got worse and they want to do the surgery as soon as possible.”
“The hand is really swollen and bloody.”
Meanwhile, Ashley Cole looks to have been hit with an ankle injury sustained in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle. Ashley, having already received treatment earlier in the game, limped off in the closing minutes and was replaced by Gael Clichy.
The seriousness of the the injury is still unknown as no tests have been conducted as yet. Arsene however, is less than optimistic.
“He has a bad ankle but we don’t know how long he’ll be out yet,” said Wenger.
“It is swollen already and that’s not a good sign.”
With only 6 games to go in the league, it would be quite a shame if the side were to lose such important players for an extended period. We wish Freddie and Ashley speedy recoveries.
