Arsenal are braced to make waves in the transfer market this summer, with widespread reports indicating a club-record fee will be spent imminently on Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

A deal for the 26-year-old is set to go ahead this week and narrowly surpass the £42.5m Arsenal paid Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil in 2013, with the Gunners making a major statement of intent by signing a player who boasted 37 goals across all competitions last season.

Remarkably, it’s now been revealed that Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Lacazette for the past decade and are now finally convinced he’s the man for them, with French journalist Julien Laurens telling BBC Radio 5 Live:

“Someone was telling me yesterday that Giles Grimandi, the former Arsenal player who now scouts for Arsenal, first went to watch Alexandre Lacazette ten years ago- when he was 16.”

“They have looked at him so many times, year after year, not always convinced. But this summer finally Arsene Wenger is convinced that this is the right time for him to come to Arsenal, that finally he has matured enough,”

“He’s improved enough, his game all around has improved massively. Wenger last summer was not so sure, the summer before he was not so sure but this summer he’s sure Lacazette can bring something to the club.”

Lacazette will arrive to finally add a top-class option to the Gunners ranks which has been lacking ever since Robin Van Persie left to join Manchester United but he’ll have to prove his capabilities in the Premier League after spending the entirety of his career so far with Lyon.
