There has been growing talk of Kai Havertz joining from Chelsea in a move that could cause debate for weeks.
Without looking at the numbers, it’s hard to think of the last significant contribution Havertz has had in a Chelsea shirt.
The one that springs to mind is the goal in the Champions League final in 2021 and since then, he hasn’t been particularly brilliant.
This is more so the case because of the potential the Germany international arrived at Stamford Bridge with, and the amount of goals he’s scored since his arrival.
For example, last season, the 24-year-old managed just nine goals in 47 appearances, hardly groundbreaking form in a team that struggled.
But, he could be the perfect player for Arsenal next season despite his low numbers in front of goal, and here’s why.

It’s hard to pinpoint where Havertz’ best position is. His most prolific spells for Bayern Leverkusen came from wide areas, whereas Chelsea have utilised him as a false nine.
For Arsenal, using him as a number nine could be the perfect chance to get more goals out of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Havertz is a player who enjoys playing with his back to the goal, utilising his technical quality along with his height to cause issues for defenders. Mix that with his preference for playing short passes and linking up play with oncoming attackers, he could give Arsenal extra impetus in the final third without scoring 20/30 goals per season. Almost like having a Dennis Bergkamp figure back in the side.
That’s where the likes of Jesus, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are likely to thrive.
It was clear in certain games that Arteta needed something different as the season wore on, especially in possession. Having Havertz with his back to goal around the area will allow the ball to stick and provide extra control in the final third.
Not only that, but he averages more headers won than Jesus, highlighting his physical presence which will be a huge benefit throughout the course of the season, especially with Champions League football back at the Emirates.
