Am I being too optimistic in thinking that this is so much more than an impressive run of form for us? It feels like the penny has dropped – or, at least, it is dropping – and this will now be a long term change, with the odd hiccup of course, rather than regular embarrassing capitulations.

People always suggest Arsenal are a fragile outfit, with their ability to be knocked never far away during positive spells. However, the form over recent weeks – minus Monaco, of course – has seen the team grind out results, win when it didn’t look like we could string a pass together and shown a real mental character to bag all three points on occasions that, in the past, would’ve seen us drop valuable points.

Is this the moment Arsene Wenger has been building towards? The majority of our squad are in the peaks of their career or youngster such as Hector Bellerin, who is already proving his worth, and will only improve as his career progresses.

We’ve got a core to last us a good few seasons, we’ve got options in almost every department – defence will be sorted this summer, I’m almost certain of it – and we’ve clearly got a team spirit, a togetherness in the players that they all believe in this project – I’m almost certain the change to the British core was Wenger’s belief that the proud Brits would buy into his plan and show loyalty greater than the likes of Samir Nasri etc.

This is what we’ve been waiting for and I’m delighted Arsene Wenger was able to be the man to deliver it to us. We are close, Gooners.
