Is THIS star the perfect transfer replacement for Arsenal’s Podolski?

Pedro

Barcelona winger Pedro has reportedly handed in a transfer request. The 27 year old is said to be disappointed with his diminishing role with the Catalan club this season, putting many potential suitors on alert. With Lukas Podolski also known to be unhappy at Arsenal, the inevitable question is raised as to whether the Barca man would make a good replacement.

I said before that Pedro is not the player Arsenal need, and should avoid in January, but in the instance that Podolski leaves the club then Pedro may be a worthwhile replacement (wouldn’t be my first choice but a viable replacement nonetheless).

It is unknown as to whether Barca will grant the player his request, and if so what kind of fee he will command. With Barca’s transfer ban it is doubtful they will allow a player to go out, especially in the midway point of the season. Arsenal’s signing of Alexis Sanchez also to me casts the transfer in doubt so it will be interesting to see how this story plays out.

In term of attributes I wouldn’t group Pedro and Podolski in the same category. In Cazorla, Rosicky, Chamberlain, Walcott, and Sanchez, Arsenal already possess many players similar to Pedro. Podolski’s finishing ability and goal prowess is what separates him and for that reason Pedro wouldn’t be my first choice replacement.

He would have just as difficult a time getting into the Arsenal XI and it would take a significant fee to prize him from the Spanish giants at this point. Still the Barca man could be worth pursuing in the event Podolski leaves the Emirates. He would fit the Arsenal style of play even if only from the bench.

Be sure to comment and let us know how you feel Pedro would fit in at Arsenal.
