Losing Jack Wilshere is a “big loss” for Arsenal.

That’s the view of former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who says he’s “very sad” his ex-teammate is leaving the club.

Earlier this week, Wilshere announced he would be ending his 17-year connection with Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the month.

The midfielder, who has been plagued by injuries for much of his career returned to the first-team last season and racked up over 30 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side.

However, after a meeting with new boss Unai Emery, the Englishman discovered his game time would be considerably cut this coming season. Wilshere elected to part with the club in order to progress in his career.

And Giroud is disappointed Arsenal didn’t try harder to hang on to the 26 year-old.

“Jack is a good lad, a very good player, very talented and it is a shame he has had so many injuries,” said the Frenchman (via the Mirror)

Wilshere is set to leave Arsenal at the end of June.

“But he came back well last season and it was good to see him on the pitch, enjoying his game and being strong.

“It’s a big loss and I hope he will bounce back as soon as possible at a good club.

“I wish him the very best because I appreciate him. I hope for him and his family he will bounce back.

“The new manager makes the decision and he has the responsibility for the team and the player.”
