Jack Wilshere has issued an apology to Arsenal fans following their 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Sunday.

Wilshere returned to the starting XI and completed 90 minutes for Arsene Wenger’s side, but the Englishman was unable to prevent Arsenal losing for the fourth game on the trot.

Arsenal fans brought out the banners and were heard chanting for the axe to fall on Wenger.

Wilshere has called for the fans to stick with the team after the club fell 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Writing on Twitter, Wilshere said: “I’m sorry to the gooners out there. You deserve better. Thats [sic] all i have to say.

“I know its difficult at the moment in this difficult period we are going through as a team but we need you. We will do better but please stick with us ❤”.

Wilshere was one of few players to receive a positive chant from Arsenal fans. “Super Jack” echoed around the Amex as Gooners continue to get behind the academy graduate.
