Jack Wilshere has urged Arsenal to not lose ‘future captain’ Aaron Ramsey to a direct rival on a free transfer.

The Gunners withdrew their proposed new four-year contract for Ramsey last month.

Talks are over at this stage with both parties having seemingly accepted Ramsey’s future lies away from Arsenal. The midfielder, who is currently the club’s longest serving player could now join a direct rival next summer.Reports claim the 27-year-old is wanted by Manchester United, who have joined the race for his signature.

Wilshere, who left Arsenal under similar circumstances  for West Ham this past summer has urged the club to not let his former teammate leave.

Wilshere wants Ramsey to remain at Arsenal

Wilshere told the Islington Gazette: “He’s grown up to be a great player with Arsenal. They could do with someone like him. We know what he can do for the club.“For me he’s a future Arsenal captain. I know he loves the club. It’s difficult for me to comment on because I’m not there but I do know he’s a great player – if it was me I know I would want to keep him around.

“He’s a great guy to have around. He’s been at the club so long and knows it inside out. If you look at what he’s done for the club too.

Ramsey scored a stunning goal in Arsenal’s last game. The 5-1 thrashing at Fulham has moved Emery’s side into the top four ahead of Monday’s meeting with Leicester.
