Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal had the best transfer window this summer.
The Gunners were reportedly set to work to a tight budget of £45m, but still managed to recruit six signings.
Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and Dani Ceballos amongst others have joined Unai Emery’s project as he aims to return the north Londoners back to the Champions League.
Head of football, Raul Sanllehi helped mastermind a £72m move for in-demand Pepe – with only £20m spent up-front, with the rest spread over instalments for the next five years.
While David Luiz (£8m) also arrived with Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba – who will spend the year on loan at St Etienne.
When asked about who had the best summer, Carragher said: “I’m looking at Arsenal.
“Not so much as in I think they are going to challenge for the title, I still think they will be there or thereabouts in the top four.
“But when you think about the pessimism after the Europa League final and how far they were away from Chelsea in that game.
The Gunners were also applauded for the business done by Emirates chiefs this summer, with Carragher highlighting the decision to ship Alex Iwobi off to Everton for a whopping £35m.
“And there is talk of £40m to spend which isn’t a great deal of money.
“You could look at at it and think maybe Arsenal are being clever telling people that they had £40m to spend.
