David Luiz’s shock deadline day mov from Chelsea to Arsenal is “fantastic” business for the defender.
That’s the verdict from former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The Brazilian brought his second spell at Stamford Bridge to a close on Thursday with a reported £8 million move to the Emirates Stadium.
Luiz has joined Unai Emery’s project after being informed he was no longer a first-choice defender for new boss Frank Lampard.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho, who managed the 32-year-old for a season during his second spell at Chelsea before the defender completed a lucrative move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014, said:
“David is a player the manager knows well – he knows what David can give and can not give.
“I think we all know the good qualities of David and where he can improve teams. I know because I’ve coached him sometimes he can make his mistakes, especially when his concentration levels are low.
“When you change clubs and have something to prove, I think it’s a good move for him.
“In this moment in his career to get the opportunity to have a late move and stay in the Premier League at the highest level, for David is a fantastic move.”
Luiz could make his first appearance for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Burnley at The Emirates on Saturday (KO 12:30).
