Arsenal chief Josh Kroenke has promised that the club will be more ‘aggressive and decisive’ with dead weight players in the future and admits that the mentality change following the 4-1 thumping by Chelsea in last season’s Europa League final.

The defeat meant the Gunners are now without Champions League football for the 3rd year in a row which hugely limited their spending power this summer.

However, Kroenke has praised director of football Raul Sanhelli and backroom staff for ‘working their magic’ in the transfer market to bring six new stars to The Emirates.

Kroenke told BBC Sport: “I would defer to our football operations staff but I know there are a few names that have come up who might not see as much playing time this season, so whether that’s via loan or permanent transfer I know there are discussions going on.

“I’ll leave that to our football operations staff.

“So from a player’s perspective, whether it’s good or bad news I think the best thing you can do is be honest with the player because they’ve only got a limited window where they can be at their physical peak.

“I would say whatever we’re doing we’re going to be aggressive and we’re going to be decisive, and we’re going to communicate well and honestly through it all.”

The 39 year-old added: “Going into the summer we knew we were going to have instruments in place that were going to allow us to be aggressive and they weren’t going to be dependent on sales. The guys went out, worked their magic and I’m happy to have them on our side.”

With a stringent budget, Arsenal still managed broke their club-record transfer fee with the acquisition of Nicolas Pepe from Lille. The £72m player was joined by Dani Ceballos (loan), William Saliba, Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Brazilian’s Gabriele Martinelli and David Luiz.
