This will be the third time Anthony Taylor has overseen a match involving Arsenal and Liverpool. His first experience of this encounter was during the 2014/15 season when Arsenal comfortably beat Liverpool 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League in a match which saw him show 3 yellow cards, including two bookable offences for Emre Can. Hector Bellerin was booked for Arsenal. His second and last experience of Liverpool versus Arsenal was the 3-1 win for Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season. On that occasion, he showed 2 yellow cards (Fabinho and David Luiz).

The last time he oversaw a match involving Arsenal was the 3-1 win at home versus Manchester United in the Premier League back in September. On this occasion, he brandished five yellow cards, including bookings for Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.

His last match involving the visitors was their 4-2 win at home versus Newcastle United in the Premier League on New Year’s Day. He showed eight yellow cards that day, including bookings for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Wataru Endo and Luis Diaz.

Anthony Taylor was the man in the middle for a total of 44 matches last season, showing 179  yellow cards (4.07) and 6 red cards. He showed 13 (yes, that does say 13) yellow cards in the Europa League Final between Sevilla and Roma (1-1), which Sevilla won 4-1 on penalties.

Taylor has been the man with the whistle on 28 occasions so far this season, showing 129 yellow cards (4.61) and 4 red cards. He was most card-happy in the Premier League encounter between Manchester City and Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium (2-0) when he showed 10 yellow cards and 1 red card, including bookings for former Liverpool players Taiwo Awoniyi and Divock Origi, and a booking for Nuno Tavares, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Arsenal.
