In quite a bizarre turn of events, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has slammed Raheem Sterling, warning him that he should think twice about swapping Anfield for the Emirates. This comes after Sterling admitted in midweek that Arsenal’s alleged interest is “quite flattering,” which only added fuel to the growing fire.

A bemused Carragher responded to his former teammate yesterday, offering some harsh words for the 20 year old. Speaker to reporters, Carragher did not hesitate to lay into Sterling, telling him to stay put if he values his development.

“First, he was desperately naive to say such a thing on the eve of such a crucial game. He is also naive, as are his advisers, if he thinks Arsenal would guarantee him a regular place every week.”

“What Sterling’s camp are struggling to see is that Liverpool is the best place for him. Forget money for a minute. This is about football and his development. He will start the vast majority of games at Anfield. Would that be the case at Arsenal? No.”

“He wouldn’t play as a centre forward there ahead of Olivier Giroud or Alexis Sanchez. Being a No 10 would be out of the question, as he is not like Mesut Ozil or Santi Cazorla, which would mean a battle with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott to start wide right.”

Quite interesting developments this one is, and the timing couldn’t be better as the two sides are set to do battle this afternoon. Carragher has a point to be fair, but we gooners won’t let that stop us from encouraging the lad!

The summer promises to be interesting, but for now let’s help Sterling make up his mind by showing him who the better side is today!

Driving Arsenal to success?
