Manchester City pulled out of a bidding war to sign Alexis Sanchez because Pep Guardiola has turned his attention to signing Antoine Griezmann.

That’s according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, who say Guardiola told his team to end the chase for Sanchez and focus on the Frenchman.

Further reports are that City also withdrew interest because they were reluctant to enter a bidding war with neighbours Manchester United.

Sanchez has less than six months to run on his current Arsenal contract and City do not believe the player is worth the touted £35m Jose Mourinho’s side had initially offered. However, it now appears the club’s are working towards a straight swap which involves Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading to the Emirates.

Griezmann could be on the move this summer.

Griezmann has shown superb form for Atletico Madrid once again this season. The 26 year-old has also been heavily linked with United over the last 12 months.

Meanwhile La Liga giants Barcelona are also sniffing around.

The France international has scored 65 goals in 126 Spanish top flight games for Atletico.
